cross member stencilled/painted markings |

There are various cars documented with stencilled markings for chassis number on the offside rear cross member of SWB cars.
Several cars from emerged recently with evidence of other markings - painted 'EX' and stencilled SN on the nearside.
Can anyone come up with any others? (or memories of them)
It obviously meant something in the factory office, but more evidence needed to confirm exactly what.

Density of UK Sevens on the ground |

I was wondering how many Austin Sevens there are around here that I have not seen, and then wondering how thick they are on the ground? Given the area of the United Kingdom is about 100,000 sq miles, and there are about 10,000 surviving Sevens - this is about one Seven for every 10 square miles - so on average you should never be more than about 3 miles from an Austin Seven. However, as only about 10% of the UK is built up, within towns and cities the average density would be more like one per square mile. So there should always be one very not far from you, wherever you are! (Where I live, there is mine, plus a box saloon along the road, three more about half a mile away and another one a mile across the fields - and there may be others too, of which I am not aware - they are easily hidden away.)

Gearboxes |

John D, in the "What have you done today....." thread, says his gearbox "imploded"
If you read this, John, what happened?
And as a general question, what is most likely to go wrong with a gearbox?
I'm asking because I would like to know what trouble I might expect on the Russia - Japan trip.
Generally, gearboxes in normal use seem to go on forever.
I'm asking about 4 speed boxes in particular.
I think I know that selector springs can weaken or break, and gear levers snap.
What else?
Thanks
Simon

I’m looking for the metal cover that goes over the Fuse part of an early
CFR cut out, circa 1928/9? NOT the cover for the cut-out mechanism.
If you can help please email or PM me.
