  Scrap block wanted please
Posted by: Geoff Halstead - 20-10-2017, 01:59 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

I'm ready to start grinding away all those sharp edges and corners in the ports, but do not want to go overboard.
The scrap block will be sliced and diced to give me some indication of wall thicknesses plus ideas to improve flow.

Geoff - Long johns on as heating boiler too old to repair.

  Car sucking air form somewhere
Posted by: P J - 19-10-2017, 11:15 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

Hi
I recently purchased a Big7 which is not driving at all well. She seems to be sucking air somewhere. She would tick over relatively good but wouldn't take the throttle. When I removed the air filter and fitted a cap over the carburettor she would take it but the power was badly reduced and she sounded like she was off cylinder 3. A lot of work has already been carried out to her namely coil, condenser, plugs and plug leads replaced. The carburettor has been refurbished and reset more than once. The tappets have been reset and a compression test carried out. The manifold has also been taken off and resealed.
Has anyone run across this problem before? if so please help as my 75 year old mechanic is at his wits end.

P J

Torque for axle banjo and torque tube bolts
Posted by: Dennis Nicholas - 19-10-2017, 06:49 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

Axle =1938/39 (heavy). Bolts = Stainless (A2 - 70) 5/16 BSF cut to length so full thread engagement in banjo halves and torque tube to banjo without bottoming.  Using NORD-LOCK lock washers.  Threads smeared with copaslip to avoid axle thread corrosion and galling of stainless thread with steel casing.
What is a good torque wrench setting to use??  I have seen that 22Nm (16.2 ftlbs) is max for the 5/16 A2-70. (But note NORD-LOCK washers)

  lucas sleeved connector/terminal?
Posted by: JonE - 19-10-2017, 06:16 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

Hello. Scratching my head as I've got a few of these little connectors from the car presumably.. they are like a thin hollow cylinder of metal and you put a wire through them, splay it out over the top, then push it into something to effect the terminal end.

I'd like some more, as they seem a lot less faff than soldering bullet connectors on! And presumably, they can push into a lucas bullet block, perhaps?

Can anyone help - can't see anything on ebay... apart from one reference to some 'lucar' pack of 5 for dynamos. (They dont look quite right.)

thanks...
