  Front hub removal separation
Posted by: merlinart - 26-10-2017, 05:25 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (30)

Hi all

I expect that in my enthusiasm I've jumped the gun somewhat!

Having removed my front axle and mounted it up in a vice, I took off on brake drum, then using a 2 legged puller, gently pulle the whole hub off in one go.

I've discovered of course that the hub is in 2 halves, but doesn't seem to want to separate easily. What is the best solution, I don't want to use heat (yet).

I've not tackled the other side yet, as I thought it best to pose the question. I've consulted Woodrow and looked on the web, but all suggestions are that it should simply separate.

I've since discovered that there is a special puller, but can't quite see that  this would make much difference...or am I simply just missing the point?

I'll continue persevering and no doubt learning, but if anyone can suggest the best and only way, I shall be much obliged.

regards

Arthur

  Night driving

Hello All
I didn't want to hi-jack Stuart's post on "time to convert to 12v" but am interested in your experiences of night driving with the 6v system.
There have unfortunately been a couple of very serious accidents within the MCC at night with moderns ploughing into the back of vintage vehicles.
I have LED headlights but still not sure I am getting the best light.
What exact make and model of headlights are others using (there are so many out there). Does it make a difference which model of reflector is used in the headlights.
Do some of you also provide additional rear lights (flashing) and are they legal for vehicles travelling over 25MPH.
Many thanks.
Adrian.

continuity on a stop tail bulb
Posted by: JonE - 25-10-2017, 05:59 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

Is there a reason that I get continuity not just from both poles to the side earthing surface... but also from pole to pole? (which I thought would be separate circuits)

Happens on two standard bulbs which work fine...

Herbert Austin Plaque Unveiling. Lt Missenden. 08-11-2017

Herbert Austin Plaque Unveiling. Lt Missenden.

Unveiling of a Plaque commemorating the Baptism
of Herbert (Lord) Austin at Little Missenden.
Wed 8th of November 2017.

For some time the North Herts Centre, in conjunction with the Austin Seven Club (London), considered the possibility of having a plaque erected at St John The Baptist Church, Little Missenden, Bucks, to commemorate the baptism of (Baby) Austin. At last we have got the go ahead and a plaque will be erected - and unveiled at 2pm on the 8th of November, Austin's birthday.
We welcome all Austin enthusiasts, preferably in their Austins to witness the unveiling.
(Some members of the A7Owners Club will visit the church at mid day on Sunday the 5th of November and the plaque will be available for a preview on that day for any who can't make the Wednesday date.)
There's a great Pub, The Red lion, in the village. Some of us will meet there for lunch then walk or drive the 100 metres or so to the church. The pub can get crowded so we would recommend booking a table. Their phone No is 01494 862876.

So we have an idea of numbers, would you contact ;
Janet Edroff at o1438 723779 janetedroff@ntlworld.com or
Ken Cooke 01438 227354 ken.cooke@ntlworld.com

Hope to see you there,
Regards,
Janet Edroff.

  battery function
Posted by: JonE - 25-10-2017, 11:53 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

my wiring is approaching testing time, and the 6V battery, new probably 4 years ago, and just kept charged occasionally - is now under scrutiny!

In my ownership (last 12 months)  I've noticed that the charger doesnt operate for long before the green 'charged' light comes on. i.e. I've always thought that it seemed to retain its oomph very well.

But on my first connect and turn on, the lights were bright and then dulled quickly, and the Voltmeter reading went right down to 5 and a bit.

On putting charger on, in two or three minutes the green 'charged' light comes on and its back to 6.3 or 6.4V

Can anyone tell me whether this is normal, or whether the battery is probably just functioning on just a tiny part of its plates? It seems inconceivable that it can be ok after 4 years of non-use, but then likewise, it may be that I'm missing something... or dont understand what the variables are.

TIA...
