Any advice on the Best way to start welcome.
Also any detailed drawings or pictures would be useful.

  A7 motorcycle... not a Brough !

A somewhat eccentric motorcycle that was well known around Malvern in late 1940s and 1950s. Built by Dave Peace (my Godfather) in 1947-48 an OEC (Osbourne Engineering Company) frame and forks that were dug out of a hedge near Cradley Brook, with a BSA gearbox and an Austin Seven engine complete with Radiator, the Bike was sold to Tom Grovsner (my Great Uncle) who removed the sidecar body, added a box to the chassis which he used to carry his ladders around for his window cleaning round, he lived in Lechmere Crescent, after that the bike was sold to the Evans brothers who lived in Jamaica Road, father of the family that now have the TV (Express TV) in Malvern Link. I would love to know what happened to it after that ! Photo was leant to me by Keith Lloyd who originally was given it by Hunter Peace, Daves son. Hunter has told me that it is him in the photograph. I now live in Dave Peaces house . Dave was a teacher of scientific instrument making at the RRE, Hunter was a pupil at Hanley Grammar School.

This from the Malvern History page of Facethingie.........looks like a magneto engine

  AE Chummy Hood
Posted by: Ian Williams - 21-04-2018, 09:33 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (5)

I am working on a newly purchased AE Chummy there are some issues with the hood frame and rests, This is a model I am not completely familiar with. Firstly the rests do not appear entirely correct for an AE I have seen some which are quite different This is early 1930, perhaps later cars changed? Second the hood frame does not fold and sit nicely in the rests, it is obvious some of the frame is bent, but I have no reference to check it against, and the wooden front rail appears that it could be slightly too narrow forcing the bows inward too far? The rear hood bow has a shaped pressing attached, it this correct for an early AE, the very original car in Mills appears different, but I don't have a clear picture, the leather securing straps are also missing
Has anyone got an AE they could photograph and measure for me?

  possible fueling problems?
Posted by: ollie cox - 21-04-2018, 04:19 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

Hi all.

After a while of sitting the Austin decided to go a bit temperamental,   The car starts however a
Lot of white smoke from the exhaust, as well as liquid black unburnt fuel from exhaust and the car won’t run for more than 30 second before it cuts out.... Huh. Did all the usual cleaning of spark plugs, taking out and rebuilding carb, no sign of water in the cylinders and the water level is all okay.   Has any one else experienced this?

I am not quite sure what the name is, but I am missing the passenger side one. Has anyone got one which is surplus?

Harrydog was quite scandalised when the door flew open yesterday! Harness and lead stopped him bundling too far out the door....

Thanks

Roly

Half Shaft replacement AG tourer 1932
Posted by: David.H - 20-04-2018, 09:34 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (29)

It is a long time since I changed a broken half shaft....found a new one in a Garage in Farnborough opposite the RAE  up in their rafters. It cost about 20/6d as far as I recall in 1957 with it's original packing & price tag!! I bet it costs a bit more now.
Well I need to  do it again (different car, same problem). The o/s hub is distinctly loose & appears unconnected to anything!
I will have to make/borrow a half shaft/brakedrum tool, I have a stout 3/4BSW spanner, so I should be able to get it apart, but I cannot remember if the shaft bits will simply pull out of the diff, or do I have to split the diff?
I am not looking forward to seeing the state of the hub taper etc. I will know the half shaft length when I get it apart
I am not sure of the axle type (three I think), It has stamped on the diff "49541 and then what looks like a 9 above
the 1...the numberer ran out of space!) Any code-brakers with ideas?
The axle measures about 36" between backplates (Morris Minor ones for the hydraulic brakes )

  Hank nuts

Does anyone have a source for hank nuts in 1/4 BSW? I've been online and found a company that can supply but in 1000 pieces minimum, which is about 990 more than I can use.

  Unknown RP - Identity?
Posted by: Hedd_Jones - 19-04-2018, 02:58 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

Does anyone recognise this car? From memory a 1933 RP. This is collection by the purchaser in the early mid 1980's say 1984 ish from Ruthin North Wales

I seem to remember that one or more of the axles were welded on so it was mobile.

Anyone recognise the bloke? or the Transit van (with what looks like a Cheshire number). It is probably me in the red jumper

I've just had a quantity of transparencies scanned and was curious about this car.
