  Mk 2 Ruby fuel pump
Posted by: Joe eck - 25-04-2018, 07:58 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (9)

i have recently removed the AC "T" type fuel pump from my Mk2 Ruby and noticed that the screw in the bottom of the pump that prevents the operating lever from moving too far forward had the end broken off. I found the end of the screw in the body of the pump and have replaced the screw with a plain threaded one.

Upon re fitting the pump I found that even with the thinnest possible gasket , the operating lever doesn't appear to ride on the back of the eccentric on the cam and ' although the pump operates ok , I think I can hear a tapping noise from the area of the pump when the engine is revved.

My questions are , 1. Has the original screw broken due to the operating lever flicking back on to the screw due to it not riding on the eccentric ?

                           2. Is it possible that the end of the operating lever has excessive wear hence preventing the correct operation.

I have checked the eccentric on the cam and it feels fine !!

Any help would be gratefully received

  Leak in fuel tank
Posted by: Erich - 25-04-2018, 04:48 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (14)

I have noted that in my Ulster Rep, there appears to be a slight leak where the NS front tab is riveted to the tank. Is this a common fault and what is the best way to repair?

  American Bantam and Rosengart Questions
Posted by: Nate M - 25-04-2018, 07:26 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

Hello

Was wondering if others more knowledgeable can clarify a few things regarding both American Bantam and Rosengart?

Interested to know what relationship if any the 20-22 hp 754-821cc (aka 46-50.1 cid) American Bantam side-valve engines has with the 747cc Austin 7? If they are both directly related or whether the former like the 788cc BMW 3/20 OHV engine was an all-new design developed from the same tooling as the Austin 7 unit?

Additionally beyond its role in developing the original Jeep prototype did American Bantam consider getting back into car production after WW2?

Also engine aside to what degree was the Rosengart Ariette directly related to the Austin 7? As have heard varying opinions ranging from the Ariette chassis having only a very negligible connection to the Austin 7, up to the Ariette indeed featuring an Austin 7 derived chassis (in spite of its modern post-war looks suggesting it could have remained in production for almost a decade in better circumstances via a more potent engine).

  BA7C AGM - positive news
Posted by: Dan Cole - 24-04-2018, 06:15 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

Hello all, from time to time concerns are expressed about the future and the very obvious need to encourage new and young enthusiasts into the wonderful world of Austin Sevens. Since many old vehicle clubs find it difficult to attract new (and young) members and also volunteers for committee roles the discussion can get a bit gloomy. Back in March we held the Bristol Austin Seven Club AGM. We had a fair turnout - over 10% of the club membership which, considering the snow and threats of worsening weather was pretty good. For the past few years we have not had all committee roles filled which was a disappointment however, following our AGM, I am pleased to report that the Committee is back to full strength with several new and recent members.

It is worth pointing out that although the average age of the club membership is quite high (reflecting the general trend of few young drivers getting into old cars) we do have quite a few younger members. On our current committee for example we have 3 under 40s and 3 women in key roles (Vice Chair, Newsletter Editor and Membership / Registrar) so there is a good mixture of experience, ideas and plenty of enthusiasm. I know that we along with most A7 and other old vehicle clubs face various challenges but I thought it was worth mentioning this recent positive news.  We are always interested in any initiatives to encourage widening participation in the A7 scene and, to this end, the BA7C are pleased to be supporting club member Chris Blakey with his ambitious and inspirational 2019 Celebrate the Seven Expedition.

We look forward to hearing positive news from other clubs. Smile

All the best,

Dan Cole

  Searching for 1936 Ruby EPG289
Posted by: wooster - 24-04-2018, 04:59 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

Hi All
A friend of mine is searching for a 1936 Austin 7 Ruby registration no. EPG 289 that his father owned in the 1970's and 1980's. The body was green with black wings. It was sold in about 1988 and was then sold on to someone in Hungerford, Berkshire, who restored it. According to the DVLA system, the MOT expired in 2007. Does anyone know where it is please? Any information gratefully received.
Thanks
Rich
