  New wheel rims
Posted by: Robert Leigh - 16-04-2018, 10:42 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (8)

I am having some 15" wheels respoked, but I am told that the rims are not truly circular. Does anyone know a source for 2.5" by 15" rims at a sensible price.

Sales & Wants Section - Please Read
Posted by: Timothy P - 15-04-2018, 09:32 PM - Forum: Sales - Replies (4)

Welcome to the Sales and Wants Section.

It would be greatly appreciated if advertisers would remove their adverts once they have been fulfilled. This will help prevent further enquiries.
This is easily done by opening the thread and deleting your original post.

It is quite understandable that this step may be forgotten, and to help keep adverts relevant, the section is now set to hide adverts after 20 days of inactivity. If you want to keep your advert, simply add a reply, and this will reset the 20 days.

If your advert has disappeared and you want it back, this is easy to achieve, as outlined below.

Having selected the 'Sales' or 'Wants' section you should have a similar view to that shown below. To show older adverts use the drop down box circled and select the period you wish to view, then hit the 'Go' button to the right. This should reveal more adverts, and to return your thread to the top and restart the 20 days, simply post a reply. Don't worry, the next time you select the same forum it will return to the default 20 day view.

  Zenith 26VA choke spring replacement
Posted by: Roger Goldthorpe - 15-04-2018, 11:11 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

Hi all,

I am replacing the choke spring on my Zenith 26VA carburettor.

To remove the broken spring it appears that the choke operating lever and (throttle ?) cam will need to be separated. They are I assume a tight push fit but I am fearful of damaging one, other or both.

How is the best way to tackle this?

Roger

For choke read air strangler or air shutter if you prefer!

  Distilled Water
Posted by: RichardC - 15-04-2018, 09:14 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (18)

In theory using distilled water would be beneficial to the cooling system in reducing corrosion, together with a 20% mix of antifreeze and perhaps 3 % of a coolant mix. There has been a suggestion however that the water would seek to " normalise" to its usual chemical content and in doing so would actually be more aggressive. Does anyone have the knowledge or experience of using distiiled water ?

  Engine
Posted by: AlfieM - 14-04-2018, 02:39 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (5)

1931 RN Saloon, when driving at 30mph, oil pressure is only registering at 2. On warm start up she pressurises within a second or so and on cold start up instant pressure and fills the clock.
I am running on SAE30 and recently cleaned the sump gauze, I am a little concerned that the 2PSI drops to nothing when you stop at traffic lights to an idle. if you touch the accelerator oil pressure will increase between 2 and 4 depending on how high you rev. one other apparent point this car has had for years, when you switch off after a 5-6 mile drive and immediately engage the starting handle it is ever so tight to turn over for the first revolution, if you continue on past 1 revolution she is quite free as normal and never does it when cold or partially warm. The engine is not over heating nor is fan belt slipping and had a recent head off de-coke. I would appreciate if anyone could put my mind at ease on these matters?

  A7CA Magazine
Posted by: John Penny - 14-04-2018, 11:42 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (4)

I know nothing about the goings on behind the scenes mentioned in another thread but as a new subscriber I have just received my first copy (2018B) of the magazine.
I have to say I'm very impressed. Very interesting content and I really like the look of it.
The icing on the cake for me was to see the sadly quite brief article about Big Sevens.
Are they "much maligned"? If so, I really don't understand why. I may be a bit biased Smile and although my experience of older Sevens is limited the Big Seven is very much a superior car and much more usable on modern roads. I had convinced myself I wanted an Opal until I actually rode in one but soon realised I'd rather have the big Seven. Nothing beats the charm of vintage Sevens of course.

Anyway, I digress. I just wanted to say I am pleased with my magazine.

Regards, John

  Roof edge sealant
Posted by: Pearls not a Singer - 13-04-2018, 10:19 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (9)

I'm just about to re-roof my RP  saloon, so need to find a suitable seal for the edge of the roof where it sits in the metal body.

There's a bewildering array of acrylic, silicone and other products.  This is a difficult area as the product  needs a long life withstanding high temperatures, UV, differential movement, vibration, and water!

Any recommendations for the best product(s) gratefully received
