  Speedex front spring
Posted by: scrooge - 03-12-2018, 06:58 PM - Forum: Wants - Replies (1)

I have an Ashley that I am rebuilding and wondered if anyone had any information about the Speedex Independent front suspension spec.
I don't know if it's genuine Speedex but looks remarkably similar.
I need a front spring as I have a broken leaf , The spring length between bushes is 33.5" .
I will probably end up having a new spring made but I wondered if anyone knows what the original camber should be. Or even a source of a new/secondhand spring.

  Any thoughts..

Whilst I haven't yet been able to view an Austin 7 Paxton I've heard of.... I did see the below advertised which I think was previously up for sale a couple of years ago at £15K and clearly didn't sell for obvious reasons when you see the Ad!

I think it was discussed here a couple of years ago with comments about removing all the bling and it would be a decent car.... as there are now pics of the engine and underneath are there any thoughts by the resident experts as to originality under all that bling????

WHEEL SPOKES

Help! Where can I buy just two spokes (one long and one short) for an otherwise sound set of 1933 19" wheels?

One for our New Zealand readers
Posted by: Hugh Barnes - 02-12-2018, 10:23 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

A pal of mine is touring NZ at the moment and called in at a Vintage Machinery Museum at Te Anau on the South Island. There he found a MkII Ruby that belonged to a local teacher who sadly died before completing the restoration. A group is trying to finish it but they know nothing about Austin 7s. Is it possible that one of our NZ contingent might be able to get in touch and offer some help? I'm waiting for thier email address to arrive from my pal and will pass that on to anyone who feels able to help...

many thanks in advance..

Hugh

  Nippy BMT 555 anyone?
Posted by: Hugh Barnes - 02-12-2018, 10:12 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

Howdy. The Archive Project has had an enquiry from the son of a previous owner of this car who is keen to hand over 1950's history and photos to the current owner. The Chassis register shows the car owned by a PWA7C member, but that appears to be old, un-updated information. Does anyone know of the car and current owner please?

thanks..

Hugh

Photo RN and RK sunroof
Posted by: Martin Prior - 01-12-2018, 06:02 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (10)

Beg, Steal, or Borrow!

Can anyone lend us the sliding panel for an RN sunroof - better still, the fixed rear panel as well? We need to get some accurate measurements and constructional details.

We receive frequent enquiries, so there's clearly a demand, but as far as I'm aware no-one is making the metalwork (I've asked the usual suppliers).

Time, we think, to do something !

We're also in need of detailed information about RK sunroof sliding panels.

  Regulator question
Posted by: Tiger - 01-12-2018, 05:35 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

Hello folks
Looking to sort some electrical problems.
Ruby came with almost no electrical cables.
However a few thin wires were still connected to the regulator
Leading me to think it had been run with a 12v system ????
I want to use a 6v system.
The regulator number is CRF 2L
Can anyone advise is this OK for 6v
Regards

  Restoring a Top Hat

I just couldn’t resist the advert – 1926 Austin 7, unused since 1931. The car had been rescued from a barn by the Previous Owner in the early 1960’s. A cosmetic restoration was carried out in the 1980’s together with a retrim but the car has not been driven on the road since the original owner (a farmers wife it seems), pushed it into the barn in the summer of 1931.

I acquired the car in February this year. Initial inspection showed a list to the nearside and considerable fatigue cracking around the body mountings. Some of the body support brackets were bent and broken as well. I decided the body had to come off.

So today, the body was removed. It seems that the car has sustained a nasty piece of accident damage all those years ago - the chassis is ben about an inch to the nearside. The actual lean of the body is due to the chassis extensions (added as extras in 1926 remember) were badly fitted, pushing the body out of line. But how do I repair the chassis rails??

Probably explains this as well - I noticed it earlier. Looks like the car was struck in the offside. May explain why the front wheels have odd rims as well, they were probably replaced at the same time. Body seems untouched.....
