  Portuguese Seven

Obviously not 1930 as stated, is this a late RN with rear petrol tank or an earlier car that's been modified?

Can anyone identify this windscreen closer? The dashboard end mounting is different to the usual RN/RP mounting.

How related were the Seven, Big Seven and Eight Engines?
Posted by: Nate M - 09-12-2018, 04:20 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (8)

Hello

Have read conflicting things regarding the exact relationship between the 747cc Seven, 900cc Big Seven and 900cc Eight engines.

Some say the latter two are virtually clean sheet designs with little commonality between them or to the Seven engine, others say either the Big Seven or the Big Seven and Eight are both redesigns of the original Seven engine.

Also if the Eight engine does indeed share a relation stretching back to the Big Seven or Seven engines, was 900cc the maximum capacity the engine was capable of or was further stretch available (as seem to recall articles about Seven-derived engines being stretched to as much as 950cc if not more)?

And lastly is it known whether the Big Seven or Eight engines were recipients of an OHV conversion along similar lines to the LAP Head for the original Seven engine (possibly by Alta, etc)?

Hi,

What is recommended on returning from a rainy trip, please?  I don't like closing the door on a wet car.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the horn button/lndicator cover from the steering wheel, is it retained by clips and pulls off or is there some other retainer.

Thanks for all replies

  Starter Motor Refurb
Posted by: PhilM - 08-12-2018, 02:06 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (10)

Although I've now had my 1937 two seater (not Opal) project at home for several weeks now, I'm still in the process of getting the garage space sorted out in order to start work on the major items. I have a large double garage but the A7 shares the space with the Midget, a lathe and a small Mill so space is at a premium. This probably means that anything like engine out or body off chassis work is now going to have to wait till the spring when I can bear to put the Midget outside under a decent cover.

However being an impatient sort I've started to remove bite sized bits and pieces which can be overhauled and refurbished on the bench, the latest of which is the starter motor.
On disassembly of the motor I found a bit of a mess, everything is covered in what looks like thick copper grease, which I guess is dust from commutator / brushes.

I would guess that this stuff is quite conductive so I'd like to remove as much of it as is possible.
Is there something I can safely wash the area around the field coils out with?
I'm reluctant to use any strong solvents in case it adversely affects the insulation.

Any observations will be gladly received.

Many thanks,    .... Phil.

  Crack free Conrods
Posted by: Zetomagneto - 07-12-2018, 10:28 PM - Forum: Wants - No Replies

Hi, I am looking for 2 crack free conrods for a 2 bearing engine, ideally with good white metal and which can be resized to 1.280”.
I would be pleased to hear from anyone who can help.
I have spare Conrods, but hoping to find some that can be resized rather than going to the expense of re whitemetal.
Many Thanks Gene

  King pin?
Posted by: Graham Honnor - 07-12-2018, 06:06 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

Hello All

I wonder if someone called advise me please.
I have just stripped my kingpins on a Mk 11 Ruby axle and have discovered that
one has a hole all the way through the pin and the other one is sealed at the bottom.
Both have the threaded hole at the top but I was wondering which one is correct please.

Thank you for your time

Graham.
