  MyBB?
Posted by: Chris KC - 10-10-2018, 07:41 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (74)

What's with the "MyBB" thing?
Does it need to take up quite so much of the screen?

As of today I have difficulty with login as the user name / password box appears just off the bottom of (my) screen at lower left and I can't see or therefore click on the fields to complete them. I managed to work around it by going full screen but hopefully that's not the future...?

  Military GE Cup Model cars
Posted by: AllAlloyCup - 09-10-2018, 11:01 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - No Replies

The Source book references an Army order in 1928 for 65 GE Cups with black enamelled
radiators shells and military 19” wheels.

Are there any survivors or even photos of
these unusual military vehicles.

Funny to think that the Germans were
Doing tank manoeuvres with their BMW “Austin’s” not long after!

There is a photo in the Gallery but it looks to
be a civilian one with its soldier owner having a wheel change.

  Back country run NZ style
Posted by: Ian Williams - 09-10-2018, 06:13 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (20)

Last weekend we organised a long day adventure taking in some 150miles of NZ back country roads, over half were little used gravel lanes and the highlight being one 10 mile stretch along an elevated ridge with sweeping views both sides of the road cumulating in a spectacular view of the Kaipara Harbour. Somewhat different to what our UK owners will be used to, here are a couple of pictures to wet your appetite should anyone want to plan a trip here for the 100th.

A friend who has a steam traction engine also has a few other bits... he organises a "come in what you have"weekend at a pub just outside Harrogate. This time he brought the car his wife used to take the kids (now in their late 20's) to the village school..a "dans son jus" 16/6

Ruby Trafficator Switch - How Does it Cancel?
Posted by: Jamie - 07-10-2018, 01:15 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

I am making a slow start on my Seven, starting with the indicator switch: an odd choice, perhaps....

I have fitted a replacement operating arm and knob, both of which had been removed at some stage. However, I cannot work out how it is meant to cancel. Although the thing is a bit stiff, it is freeing up slowly, having been sprayed with dry-lube. Before I dismantle it any further to clean the contacts and clear out the grease that is in it, I should like to be a bit more aware of how it is meant to operate.

Can anyone explain, please?

Jamie.

Solar Charger for 6 volt battery
Posted by: bob46320 - 07-10-2018, 07:26 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (5)

Can anyone recommend a solar charger for 6 volt lead acid batteries that we use on the Seven.  It would be good to have the battery on a continuous trickle during the winter months etc. It needs to be a panel which can be mounted outside of the garage as opposed to the ones that stick on your windscreen.

  Early Horn Fitting
Posted by: Tony Press - 07-10-2018, 02:59 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

I always believed that the Benjamin Horn was attached to the firewall with a z bracket until replaced by the Rist which was then fitted to the strut between the cowl and the firewall on a two bolt bracket alongside the bonnet bracket.

But- strictly for Anoraks- I was told yesterday that the Benjamin and Rist Horns were briefly fixed to the Cylinder Head !

At first I was not sure but I then checked this out-  in The Original Austin Seven, page 65, there is a picture of the engine bay of a 1926 R Saloon showing clearly a Benjamin Horn attached to the two offside rear head studs, then Wyatt - illustration 26 1928 Tourer (facing page 65), also shows a Rist Horn  fitted to the two offside rear studs.

I am not sure how long this head fitting lasted but the Spare Parts books don't appear to show the Benjamin Horn being supplied with a two bolt bracket.

As an interesting aside my 1929 Australian bodied fabric saloon has an 'old stock' Benjamin horn on the strut between the cowl and the firewall on a two bolt bracket which I assume would match the head stud spacing, instead of a Rist which would be usual.

Cheers, Tony.

  Nec classic car show
Posted by: J Faulkner - 07-10-2018, 12:00 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (15)

Do we know what cars will be on the pwa7c club stand this year? Will JH 5024 be making an appearance as the classic car loan scheme car? Also all the best to Chris garner our chairman for the last few years as seen in the magazine that he is standing down, I wish him all the best, and could we get some cheeper tickets to the show at the nec? Thanks
