  Tyres in Aus
Posted by: Mark Dymond - 05-01-2019, 01:15 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (10)

I am at the stage where I need replace the 30+ year old rubber on the Arrow, (19 inch wheels). Longstones, although highly recommended, cost more to ship to Western Australia than the purchase price! Can anyone in Australia recommend a more local source of good tyres.

Front seat fittings 1932 short Chassis AG Tourer.
Posted by: David.H - 04-01-2019, 01:32 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (20)

I have what I think is a "slide" folded into the floor alongside the transmission tunnel which will fit into a fold on one seat but that is all! Nothing else on the seats, no sign of the "peg & ring" described in manuals. I have replacement hinges from our cherished suppliers, but they would seem to be suitable only for a no adjustment, but hinged passenger seat.
Can anyone shed light on this?
Should I have more slides on the seats? The driver's seat must have not been hinged originally.
Was the passenger seat hinged AND sliding (if so how!)
On arrival the car had one dodgy hinge on one seat, and both the seats loosely bolted down and so not adjustable other than by playing about with bolt holes. In fact one swung round on a front bolt & was retained by dropping a bolt into a hole in the seat mounting on the floor!
Apologies for the rather dark pictures, flash was being petulant.

  Type 65 sidelights?
Posted by: Stuart Joseph - 03-01-2019, 03:25 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

Good day all. I'm currently working on a pair of Lucas type 35 headlamps for a type 65. My question is were they fitted with separate sidelights or were they incorporated into the headlamps? I have looked on the gallery and it seems inconclusive - it would make sense for separate sidelights to have been introduced with the Nippy c1933.

Regards from the creative county - Staffordshire

  Headlamps
Posted by: David.H - 03-01-2019, 11:24 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

Can anyone suggest headlamps the might be suitable for a 1932 AG? My originals (Lucas -Graves) are pretty battered & will require a fair bit of love & attention (not to mention a severe beating!) I am looking for a temporary solution that will not look too out of place. As the car was much modified/updated in the 60's & my restoration is taking it to how it probably was back then, something of that era would be ok. Any ideas?
There are all sorts of "Harley Davidson(sic)!" copies on ebay from about £12 ! (plastic shells!! one star response "useless!"), but I think I may be able to do better than that.

Question North West England Restoration Services
Posted by: worthidlj - 03-01-2019, 09:05 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (14)

Morning Peeps,

Hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas and New Year holidays.

A lack of personal time/motivation/ sprog on the way I currently have an 1938 7 Chassis almost stripped (Rear Axle partially removed, front axle fully, a lot of surface rust) that I would like to pass to a service that can turn it into a roadworthy rolling chassis (with cleaned engine and gearbox bits so I can assemble/ modify it myself) and then put a sports body on it.

I'm based near Liverpool and where the National Rail Trials were held.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Cheers,
Dave

SU 1" - difference between jets?
Posted by: JonE - 02-01-2019, 11:05 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (8)

Can anyone tell me if eyebolt and standard SU jets are interchangeable... and what the differences are between them?

I've got the parts from a UB to fit the OM (which better fits the standard Austin sidedraft manifold without simple adapter), but I note my present jet is an eyebolt one.

  Distributor failure identified
Posted by: Andy Bennett - 02-01-2019, 07:07 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

Further to my earlier post about my lack of spark, I thought I would round off the story as I don't like not knowing what went wrong as it usually means it will happen again.

Having got everything running with my old bosch distributor, I went back to the Accuspark unit and nothing, no spark, back to Bosch and all was good. At least I now knew I was looking at a distributor issue.

As a reminder this is an Accuspark unit bought in Sept 2017 and installed early 2018, it has covered fewer than 500 miles.

I have investigated and found that one of the weights is free. The result is that there is no advance and retard mechanism working, the spindle just freely slops backwards and forwards and rotates through the advance and retard allowance. This tied in with my first problems of a near misfire as I tried to start the engine.

I have attached 3 photographs.
The first shows the weights sitting incorrectly and not closing up under the springs.

The second shows the one weight working correctly and centralised having been pulled back in. I have annotated it with a note to the pivot point where the peg is secure).

The third is annotated to point out the pin (as on the previous picture) and the plate with the hole which should be located on the pin but is floating free allowing the weight to move around and the spindle to rotate freely.

The pin is not sheared. It is just proud of the surface and you can juggle the plate back to catch on the pin and then all appears to work fine on the spring return mechanism, and then it slips off again.

It might be that it has been in this precarious position since new and has just slipped off a pin that was simply too short. Or the pin may be a push fit into the weight and may have slipped down. I don’t want to take it further apart having spotted the problem.

It appears to need a new pin inserted and either secured properly or just a new pin of the correct length used so that the plate cannot slip off it.

I have contacted Accuspark and will let you know what happens.

Andy

New Year's Day at Barrington, Cambs

The traditional gathering on the village green at Barrington was very well attended with quite a number of Sevens in evidence. Good to meet with friends old and new and enjoy some fresh air.
