  SM5 switch panels
Posted by: Scarlet O'Hara - 12-02-2019, 06:26 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

Does anybody know if spare parts are available for the Lucas SM5 switch panel. I'm looking for a new spring contact with the two rollers as in photo, I think it's to do with the shunt for the dynamo switching the charge rate from summer to winter. Alternatively, are there any other lucas switches with similar parts that can cannibalize for parts?

Ruby Mk1/Mk2 Front Wheel Arch Differences
Posted by: fatcatvera - 12-02-2019, 10:40 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (17)

Are Mk1 and Mk2 Ruby front wheel arches different? My front arches seem to have a slightly different form from one side of the car to the other. The RH arch is different to the LH in the following respects:-

- headlamp sits ~1" lower
- wheel looks a bit more tucked inside the arch is side profile
- arch is a bit 'flatter' across the front in plan view
- in front view the front lip is closer to the ground (~1") so you see less of the tyre

The attached picture just about shows what I mean - you can see the rusty horizontal part of the RHS is slightly closer to the bumper than the LHS. It's subtle, but it's definitely different.....

  Stripping paint off Aluminum parts
Posted by: WiandeV - 12-02-2019, 08:59 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (13)

Hi Guys

I have a question for the guys that have done it a few times. I need to strip 80 years worth of repainting and fixing up paint off the gutters on my saloon. How will I go about as to not sit with dissolved aluminium in a bucket? Paint stripper or will I have to use a heat gun and scraper?

Thanks

John H Haynes OBE the creator of the Haynes manual, passed way on Friday 8th February. I feel sure we have all used one of his manuals at some time and many of us have still got a copy of his book Building A 750 Special.

  Vintage carburettor

Can anyone identify this Zenith labelled 22VS01945, and what it may been used on? Is it perhaps the type used on early Dixis? The carb is in good condition and may be for sale.

  Over priced, part 2
Posted by: Stuart Joseph - 10-02-2019, 10:50 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

Good evening all. Further to the thread about the 'over priced' Chummy I have been following the listing of one 'nos'  Lucas LD109 sidelight as fitted to Rubies 1935 onwards. Tonight it sold for £135.33!

At these prices if I sold my stock I could possibly buy the Chummy.

Regards from the creative county - Staffordshire

Stuart

Would anyone be able to put a date to a registration number? A friend of mine is trying to trace the origins of a British-registered Bantam (London I believe) FUV 63.

Peter.
