I'm curious and would like to know:
Posted by: Steve Bryant - 09-02-2019, 03:12 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (10)

Two questions:
1) On a standard 1929 engine in stock configuration what would the red line or maximum RPM limit be?

2) We are experiencing temperatures down around the Minus 30s Celsius. How well would a '29 seven cope with this if one was drive in it?

Observations, suggestions and opinions invited.

Thanks, Stephen
(in the frozen Great White North where the temperature warmed up to minus 20 today !)

  Thread Identification Please?
Posted by: PhilM - 08-02-2019, 09:31 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (5)

Having just completed the overhaul of my 4 speed (3 synchro) gearbox I find that the thread on the end of the 3rd motion shaft for the drive shaft flange is damaged, the nut is also damaged but I think the shaft thread will clean up with the correct die.
Can somebody please tell me what this thread is so that I can obtain the correct die, it looks to be 5/8" x 16 tpi which suggests it could be whitform but I would welcome confirmation of this. I'll also be looking for a replacement nut but I haven't found one listed on any of the usual suppliers parts lists, could anybody point me in the right direction??

Many thanks,   ..... Phil.

  Vacuum Wiper motor and SU’s
Posted by: AllAlloyCup - 08-02-2019, 05:29 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (11)

The FZB updraft carb has a vacuum take off
for a Lucas vacuum motor.

Has anyone used a Lucas vacuum motor with an SU carb ?
If so where’s the best place to make a takeoff?

Alternatively have a quite rare P&H electric wiper motor, ( I’ve never seen another one)
And think I’ve seen it mounted on a period GE photograph?

Anyone else used a P&H wipermotor?

Course I may not take the car out in the rain. :-) anyway !

  Plan View of Ruby
Posted by: Jamie - 08-02-2019, 08:30 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (11)

Odd question, perhaps.

I have been searching for a picture or drawing of a Ruby, showing the car from directly above. I want to be able to see the way that the shell curves and relates to the wings and running boards. I can find plenty of images showing the car from all sorts of angles, bar above.

Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Jamie.

  Handbrake gaiter on Ulster
Posted by: Erich - 08-02-2019, 04:47 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

Hi All,

I have found(with some difficulty) a front tunnel cover for my Ulster Rep. It likely came from a saloon or tourer etc., rather than a genuine EA. It has a plate riveted with the remains of a gaiter on it. I have heard that proper EA Sports never had a handbrake gaiter. Can anyone confirm this?

  DVLA and MoT exemption
Posted by: andrew34ruby - 07-02-2019, 08:41 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (13)

I was surprised today to re-tax my 1955 Austin on-line without an MoT and without being asked about substantial modifications. Mine is not modified, but a quick look at ebay and I find a 1973 Land Rover fitted with a V8, but advertised as MoT exempt.

Maybe I am naive to think that DVLA will get anything right.

Has anyone been asked about modifications when taxing 'sevens' without MoT?

  c1934 ARQ Ruby for sale.
Posted by: Stuart Joseph - 07-02-2019, 12:52 PM - Forum: Sales - No Replies

I have a c1934 Ruby for sale which has had a fortune spent on its restoration but requires finishing. The engine has been rebuilt as has the chassis, and apparently the gearbox and rear axle. It has new tyres, a new sun roof frame and sunroof (not new) headlamps, refurbished sidelamps, replated windscreen frame and new stainless bumpers.

It has been resprayed in Maroon but still requires work to the bottom door hinges, dashboard and pop-out rear windows.

It does not have a V5 but I am told that an age related registration should be straight forward.

The car is situated 5 miles from junction 14 of the M6 - Stafford.

Please email me at stuart.joseph@btinternet.com or call on 01785 850916.

  Want to save a Ruby?
Posted by: Stuart Joseph - 07-02-2019, 12:42 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - No Replies

Good day all. I have an ARQ Ruby available which has had a fortune spent on it but requires finishing. There is no V5 but I am told that an age related number should be straight forward.

I bought this car to save it from being broken for spares and would be reluctant to see it so disposed of.

Please see fuller description in Sales.

  1932 Saloon Restoration
Posted by: WiandeV - 07-02-2019, 10:30 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (47)

Hi Guys and Girls

I am new here an a bit new the the Austin family. I have inherited my grandfathers 1932 RP saloon if that is what it is. It has been standing in a state off disassembly for the past 20 years. Until it came up to me and I drove it under its own power onto a trailer where it went into storage for the past couple off years.

I pulled it out recently to start the restoration, or rather finish it off.

I come from the classic mini scene so all this is fairly new to me.

First question, is there a parts guide somewhere so I can check what is there and what I need to get? The mechanical stuff is all there and everything works bar the dynamo. I am more worried about all the little rubbers and seals for the doors windows and hood. The sun roof also needs a whole bunch of parts.

Cheers

Wian

  LED Headlights
Posted by: John P - 07-02-2019, 09:48 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (28)

Hi,

When I built my Ulsteroid some years ago there wasn't quite so much concern about originality so when it came to headlights I bought some brass spinnings and made up my own using the reflector part only (not the glass) from a classic mini.

This means the bulb holder is designed for an H4 bulb and at the moment I have conventional 6-volt tungsten filament bulbs fitted.

I would like to fit LED bulbs to reduce the current required, especially as I am still on a 6-volt system and have seen some bulbs on e-bay which are 6-volt and dipping. (See https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H4-LED-ATV-Mo...3052998507).

These are very cheap by comparison with some I have seen which are specifically aimed at vintage cars so am I missing something?

Any advice would be appreciated.

John.
