  Sports brake bracket brass ferruls
Posted by: dchw1975 - 19-03-2019, 11:59 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

Hi,

I am replacing the brackets that fit to the rear cross member for the rear brake cables on my special and don't have the ferrules which go inside them. Does anyone sell them/know which plumbing fitting they are please?

  NIPPY GEARSTICK
Posted by: Rpm - 19-03-2019, 10:29 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (19)

Evening Guys, would a Nippy owner tell me how long the gearstick should be on the Nippy. I have newly purchased a 1936 and when selecting first gear the back of my hand collides into the edge of the dash which is not only annoying but painful too.
I spoke the other day of clutch judder, which is much better since getting to know the amout of movement required and a gentle easing out on pull away revs slightly higher.
Regards RPM Rob

Hi all,

For those interested in all things austin.

Managed to by this at the weekend.

Never seen one before.

So impressed with it, it will probably remain in the house. Instead of going into the museum?

Always loved Austins advertising of "DEPENDABLE AUSTIN" slightly changed here to "AUSTIN you can depend on it"

Tony.

  "Stadium" 8 day clock
Posted by: Parazine - 18-03-2019, 11:18 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (9)

Found this nice little "Stadium" 8 day, art deco clock on fleabay recently.

Unfortunately it didn't run, so I opened it up and found the balance staff was broken. For those who don't "do" clocks and watches, the balance staff is the axle that the escape wheel, a fundamental part of the clock, turns on. The movement was a write off, spares are unavailable and it would cost a fortune to have a watchmaker repair it.

Ah well, it was cheap enough....

A couple of weeks later, the remains of another "Stadium" turned up, only at half the cost of the first but in a dire decorative state, missing glass etc. "Worth a punt", I thought, "might have a escapement I can use". So I put in the opening bid and got it. When it turned up, not only was the balance staff intact, the movement actually ran!

This evening, I put the two together, the pretty case, face and hands with the running movement and it all works nicely!

The "Stadium" clocks are very small, the backplate is only 3" diameter and the face about 1 7/8". The movement was a mass produced, six jewel pocket watch movement, made by L Sandoz in Switzerland. I believe they retailed in the late twenties for about 30/-.
I have previously used "Smiths" clocks on the dashboard which are much more agricultural.

This one should look good on the dashboard of my RK saloon...….

  Rust pitting on flywheel
Posted by: PhilM - 18-03-2019, 08:04 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

I wonder if somebody could give me an opinion as to whether the amount of rust pitting on the clutch contact area of my flywheel is acceptable.

It's rather difficult to capture in a photo but the damage doesn't extend all the way round.

I will need to have the damaged ring gear machined off in order to fit a new shrink on one but if the damage to this one is deemed too excessive I may need to look for a replacement rather than go to the expense and trouble of machining.

I'd be really grateful for any advice offered.

Thanks,     ..... Phil.

Photo RN petrol tap
Posted by: John Mims - 18-03-2019, 10:11 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (10)

I'm cleaning up an RN petrol tap, in which some of the deposits have been caked very hard.

When it comes to what I assume is the reserve outlet (arrowed in photo), it feels as if my cleaning rod comes up against metal rather than super-hard crud. Should I be able to push clean through into the part of the body where the taps slide, or is there a bend, or chamber, or something?

Also, should there have been a gauze filter over the outlets?

Thanks in advance

John

Brooklands Rev Counter Angle Drive for Slippery Anne
Posted by: Mark Atkinson - 17-03-2019, 09:18 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - No Replies

I am trying to put the pieces together for my Rev Counter drive on Slippery Anne and hope someone will be able to advise me about GE Brooklands Rev Counter Angle Drives, just like this one fitted to Mrs JoJo:

Inscribed on its body it has what may be a part number and aso the ratio:

S8N BEA
   2-1

I have absolutely no idea which company made them originally or if they originated on the Brooklands or another car, bike or even aircraft. Any advice or pointers as to the units origin would be great.

On Slippery Anne the drive was taken directly from the Magneto drive, instead of the timing case as on the Brooklands engine, but, despite the different positioning I am fairly sure it was the same type of unit:

Of course, if you have one of these units sitting on a shelf looking for a home........!

All the best, Mark.
