  Cold Turkey Trial 29th December
Posted by: Nick Salmon - 21-11-2017, 08:51 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

T.Wells Centre of the 750MC is hosting the Cold Turkey Trial at Riverhill, near Sevenoaks in Kent on 29th December. Ideal for working off the effects of the festivities and also ideal for anyone who wants to have a first go at production car trialling. You do not have to be a 750 member to take part.

  15” wheels
Posted by: leaf200 - 20-11-2017, 10:48 PM - Forum: Sales - No Replies

All,

I have acquired the attached 15” wheels. I believe they are Austin 7 with London centres. Can anyone confirm this. Does anyone know how much these would be worth

Thanks

David

  RP Battery Box
Posted by: Smiley - 20-11-2017, 05:13 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

Hi Folks,  can anyone tell me if the original battery box (on a Dec 1932 RP Box Saloon), was a complete box.
My 6V Battery is sitting on a strap about 25m/m wide, welded under the drivers seat, with a Bungee Strap
securing it. (Obviously not original). There are indications that an original box may have been cut away
during previous restoration work.
Apart from this, there is one hell of draft coming through the hole. Help.

  Cylinder head types
Posted by: bobthompson - 20-11-2017, 10:02 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

Controversial question - I hope! Is there a better type of cylinder head than an Ally 9E to use on my Mag engined trials car. Phoenix crank, Pigsty trials cam and indeed built by them about 12 years ago. I get about 125 psi and 30 bhp now,not sure how that calculates as a compression ratio?
I was thinking of changing to a new Ricardo one, will there be any more power for my money?

  carburettor overflowing
Posted by: David.H - 19-11-2017, 06:10 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (8)

The (FZB) carburettor on my 1929 RK saloon (engine M101897) insists on overflowing. When I got the car it had 2 fibre washers (each ~ 1mm thick) under the needle valve seat. I put the overflowing down to worn needle/seat and as the weights were quite worn I reversed them so that the unworn part was against the float and lapped in the needle/seat. this reduced the overflow to an occasional event. The float does not leak.
At the Beaulieu day I lashed out £24 on a new (sharp) needle and new unworn seat. Replaced everything "as was" (including 2 washers) and once again fuel again poured out of the choke/air intake and squirted out of the carb top vent hole and the needle did not shut off the flow. I removed one fibre washer...no difference.
The car starts easily, runs well and there is no sign of any overflow when the engine is running - even ticking over-. I have had the new seat out & it is clear. If you balance the needle in it and blow, it seals beautifully. Pushing down on the needle does not  shut off the fuel when it is on the car. The needle does seem a bit "sticky" ....there  is no real feeling of the weights being pushed up by the float, but as I say- the float is not losing air & there is no fuel sloshing about in it!
What is the next step? It is doing nothing for the fuel consumption, not the tarmac and is a significant fire hazard (What induced Edge to put the carburettor directly over the exhaust pipe.....?)

  Bonnet alignment
Posted by: Colin Wilks - 19-11-2017, 01:26 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (14)

There is a gap at rear edge of the bonnet as you will see in the first pic. The second pic shows that the stone guard is off centre where the starting handle goes through. The front of the bonnet is correctly lined up, i.e. it doesn't overlay the edge of the radiator surround, although it could pull back the necessary amount without causing a major issue.

For starters I am inclined to just slacken everything off and wiggle it all about, but suspect that getting one bit right will put another bit out.

All bright ideas gratefully received.

You may notice the nearside headlight is out of alignment. I have adjusted this at the headlight mounting since the pic was taken, although the nearside mudguard does still appear a little higher than its opposite number.
