  Antifreeze
Posted by: Matt_Harnden - 28-03-2018, 09:49 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (9)

What make and type of antifreeze are people using in their cars?

For years I have used Bluecol 2 year blue antifreeze but I am struggling to find some.

Frost are supplying a Granville product: Granville Sub Zero Blue Antifreeze and Summer Coolant. It says this is a Monoethylene Glycol based antifreeze that does not contain nitrates, amines or phosphates. Suitable for aluminium engines.

Thanks for the feedback.

  Brake Shoes
Posted by: bob46320 - 28-03-2018, 09:20 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (9)

Simple question, does the efficiency of brake shoes deteriorate over time. I bought new linings in 1978 - yes, 1978, but the car was not on the roads until 1999. The shoes have only done about 10,000 miles and are dry (Not contaminated) and have plenty of wear left in them, but would new shoes improve braking ??

Anyone out there have an opinion on this?

New member - Wanting an Ulster body
Posted by: Eddamoo - 28-03-2018, 08:00 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (23)

Hi All,

I'm overwhelmingly excited to get my teeth into my 1933 box saloon restoration - a car I've owned since birth but only just having the facilities (garage, money, time) to get her back on the road.

I'll be doing the car up with my father who's a retied sheet metal worker by trade.  He made a box section lift to remove the body from the chassis to commence work, and ever since he's been saying he wished it was a Chummy/Ulster instead!  I mentioned he should make one, but he said the curvatures would be difficult without lots of tooling.

So that brings me onto my question.  I'm aware of body kits existing, but does anyone know a good place to find one that is good quality not costing the earth?  The 'Roach Manufacturing' ones online appear costly don't seem to be a boat tail.  Do GRP ones still exist?

Many thanks Smile

  Mulliner Wood Frame Construction
Posted by: Colin Morgan - 28-03-2018, 07:08 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (36)

Hi

When I was working on a 1929 Mulliner saloon recently I found that the left-hand side of the wooden frame had been assembled using left-hand threaded brass screws.  I think these are original as the rest of the car has not been messed with.  A few of these screws are shown in the picture below.  Has anyone else come across them please?  Why would they do this – I don’t think the Austin factory used them?  Would this help stop the screws loosening when the frame shifts on accelerating/braking/cornering??

Original bronze Austin swallow mascot wanted
Posted by: jord33 - 28-03-2018, 04:47 PM - Forum: Wants - No Replies

Hi everyone,

I am trying to source an original swallow mascot but lack the expertise to identify them from the small number of items available online. I am of the belief that the original mascots were made of bronze (which is a key reason for the purchase) but the sellers that I have found online are struggling to confirm whether the items they are selling are said material and/or whether they are genuine pieces.

Does anyone have one they are interested in selling or can anyone provide any assistance in identifying a likely genuine article.

I have attached a picture I've received from one seller and a couple of ebay links (first one suggests it is made of brass and second suggests silver colour metal so possibly not hopeful?!)

Really grateful for any help anyone can give.

  Wedding car request, Romford Essex
Posted by: Nick Lettington - 27-03-2018, 11:49 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (6)

Hi all...

A lady posted a request on the Facebook page for a wedding car (an Austin 7 of course) on November 23 in Romford, Essex. As an aside, I understand that we can now insure our cars very reasonably on an event by event basis.

It's a bit of a treck from mine and my ORT is never going to win a beauty pagent...  Is anyone willing/able to assist?

Regards
Nick
