a Nippy project needs a caring new owner
Posted by: JonE - 05-04-2018, 10:02 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (41)

Lots of photos here - car in Bristol - they would like it restored.

https://aus7in.wordpress.com/2018/04/05/...new-owner/

Nothing to do with me and I've only seen these photos to add the notes you see in the post.

I haven't seen the car - I just spoke to the owner (and having the images for the archive may mean we can track its future restoration progress)

Hi all,
Any tips or guidance for fitting a new complete wiring harness on a MK11 Ruby,I have purchased
a harness from Jamie /North Walsham and now need to access an easy-ish wiring diagram.I have done partial re-wires on FX4 cabs in the past but they were diesels, the only ones I can find are based on the
early A7 owners book.Cheers. Huh

  Ruby interior
Posted by: 73pgsmith@gmail.com - 04-04-2018, 09:47 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

I am slowly trying to improve the interior of my scruffy 37 Ruby. I now have a nicely used leather rear seat.
Can anyone point me in the direction of clear photos of the original interior details - I've looked in "Original A7" and at photos on ebay adverts, but can't see what I need.
I'm after the details of the trim around the Pytchley sun roof,  rear window, side windows, junctions between headlining and vertical linings etc. Which bits were material and which leathercloth ?
Any pictures or thoughts appreciated, thankyou.

  Breathers in the block

hi
Does anyone know where I can get a couple of the thimble shaped breather/mesh things that are inserted in the base of the block. The block I have for the engine I'm building up has had both removed.. I suppose one question is, are they actually required?

Any guidance much appreciated

I bought an endoscope at the NEC car show for about £20. Cheaper ones are on eBay starting at about £7. I got mine as I wanted a wifi one with stiffer flex so it could be contorted into difficult spaces. There are versions that don't use wifi and plug straight into the phone, however these require your phone to support on the go - OTG. Not all phones do, including mine.

I was a bit dubious about how it would work but I was pleasantly suprised by the quality. It was very easy to set up. I took the attached shot inside cylinder 4 of a replacement engine I recently acquired. I was a bit concerned about what I saw, so took the head of. It's better than it looks!

  KING PIN ANGLE BIG 7
Posted by: Dennis Nicholas - 03-04-2018, 05:42 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

BIG 7 AXLE
I notice that on page 182 of the Austen Seven companion that the Official Austin Company "Austin Seven Journal October 1937" states that the swivel pin angle is 0 degrees.
I am just checking my big 7 axle for alignment.  With 5/8" rods in the king pin eyes I noted that they were very slightly out of alignment......as also were the 1/2 inch bars vertically in the radius arm bolt holes., but 1/2" and 5/8" bars seemed in alignment at each end  I clamped the king pin eye at one end horizontally in the vice and using a Stilson with extended tube (motor bike fork tube) on the other end I mightily heaved to untwist (I nearly broke a rib when I pushed my body against the tube to assist the twisting!!). It is surprising just how bendy and elastic an axle is........however it must have done the job in the end and twisted just over the elastic limit as the bars are now as near as I can see in alignment, as can be seen in the photo below.

The next bit I notice is that the 'swivel pin' (king pin) angle certainly is not 0 deg. as per the Austin Journal for the normal 7 axle.  Using a protractor with spirit level attached I make the angle 82.5 degrees, inwards at the top on each side.

Does anyone have the info on the BIG 7 axle or know where I can find it.  I must assume that the angle of the stub axle will eventually give the correct CASTOR angle of the wheel.......we shall see. (I have an original old dunlop castor camber wheel aligning tool so should give old degree measurements instead of any modern fangled degrees  Rolleyes )

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 12th. April at 8 p.m. As the theme for the night is Bring something to fix, the meeting will be held in the Broughton Astley Village Hall. We do not think the pub would appreciate cars parts on their tables !
After the evening we will retire to the White Horse for some liquid refreshments .
We hope to see you there.  Smile

  Ulster rep tool/jack storage
Posted by: Erich - 03-04-2018, 03:24 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (10)

Hi All,

This may seem an extreme of esoterica. However, I can't honestly believe that the works would have simply tossed a Shelley jack, and a roll of tools into the boot of the EA Sports or EA Super Sports to bang around. So how were the various tools constrained behind the seats? A box or clips of some sort?

Erich in still cold PNW US.
