  Chummy Hoodframe
Posted by: Zetomagneto - 28-08-2018, 02:14 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

I can never get my 29 Chummy hood to fold down tidily, looking at period photos they seem to go down with the frame Parts laying on top of one another.Mine has obviously benn damaged and poorly repaired/ straightened at some time as it is about 6" high when folded down.
I have spent a lot of time trying to improve it, if I get it to lie neatly when down there are problems with putting it up.

It is obvious the distance between rivet centres is critical

Does anyone have a dimensioned drawing showing the distances between the rivets that hold it all together, in the alternative does anyone have a Hoodframe for sale at a reasonable price?
There is one for sale on the internet at £650 that seems rather a lot?

  6v Starter Motor
Posted by: Laqueugne - 27-08-2018, 11:19 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (5)

My starter motor has decided not to start.  I have cleaned the contacts and can see no reason why it should not turn over.  Would there be any point in trying to get some life in it by giving it a short burst at 12v?  Perhaps this would cause a total conflagration - I just do not know.  Any other suggestions would be most welcome.
Best wishes to all,
Anthony

  Radiator

Has anybody got a spare radiator?
Or a company that make new ones.
The dimensions are width 30,5 cm (12 inch) and height of the lowest part 47,5 cm (18,7 inch) and the thickness 4,5 cm (1,7 inch)

  Degreasing brakes
Posted by: John Mims - 26-08-2018, 05:16 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (17)

What do people find best for degreasing hubs and brake drums?

I've soaked everything in diesel to get the bulk of the grease off (there was a lot!), but now, of course, the components are still oily.

Burn off the diesel?
Wash in petrol?
Wash in thinners?

  Hub oil seal
Posted by: Wayneb - 26-08-2018, 02:00 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

Hi,

I'm replacing the lip seals that have been fitted to the rear axle of my Ruby, back to felt ones.
Do they have to be oiled or fitted as they come.

Thanks

Regards Wayne

  Reusing head gasket
Posted by: Mick Hanna - 26-08-2018, 01:36 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (10)

Having changed the oil after an engine rebuild 500 miles ago and finding half a gudgeon pin pinchbolt tab washer in the old oil I managed to find out which of the conrods it came off, with the aid of a flexible camera and a very bright light. I will be removing the head and poking the conrod up to replace said tabwasher.

My question is, and bear in mind I'm from Yorkshire, can I reuse the relatively new head gasket or do I have to splash out on another new one?

  Pinion shaft diameter
Posted by: Roger - 26-08-2018, 09:39 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (21)

Could someone confirm the Pinion shaft diameter on my 1933 RP is it going to be 1” or 1 1/8”?
I would like to purchase the shaft before stripping so need to know the size in advance.
It  is 6 July 1933 5.25 Diff by the numbers on it, not sure what the 7829 number is though.

Thanks in advance.

The seller had an other Ulster, and we got a ride in it.

We wanted an old English name and my girlfriend loves the Jane Austin books.
So ...
Welcome to the family Jane.

Jane has a 1936 chassis and the body work is fiberglass but for the short chassis.
Is mostly complete, but its going to be a long road ahead.

I have still a lot to learn, so expect a lot of questions from me.

The first purchase was  the Austin Seven source book

The next things are:
- Tires (thinking about the Longstones 17inch)
- Radiator (any tips, new? second hand?)
- Getting the engine running
- And getting  the body fit the chassis
