Can anyone recommend a solar charger for 6 volt lead acid batteries that we use on the Seven.  It would be good to have the battery on a continuous trickle during the winter months etc. It needs to be a panel which can be mounted outside of the garage as opposed to the ones that stick on your windscreen.

I always believed that the Benjamin Horn was attached to the firewall with a z bracket until replaced by the Rist which was then fitted to the strut between the cowl and the firewall on a two bolt bracket alongside the bonnet bracket.   

But- strictly for Anoraks- I was told yesterday that the Benjamin and Rist Horns were briefly fixed to the Cylinder Head !

At first I was not sure but I then checked this out-  in The Original Austin Seven, page 65, there is a picture of the engine bay of a 1926 R Saloon showing clearly a Benjamin Horn attached to the two offside rear head studs, then Wyatt - illustration 26 1928 Tourer (facing page 65), also shows a Rist Horn  fitted to the two offside rear studs.

I am not sure how long this head fitting lasted but the Spare Parts books don't appear to show the Benjamin Horn being supplied with a two bolt bracket.

As an interesting aside my 1929 Australian bodied fabric saloon has an 'old stock' Benjamin horn on the strut between the cowl and the firewall on a two bolt bracket which I assume would match the head stud spacing, instead of a Rist which would be usual.

Hi is the meant to be a seal between the petrol tank and the bulkhead? I believe it is felt but not sure of the profile or size, any hints or suppliers would be great to know.

Hi everybody, I have been a member of this forum for some time but have not so far posted, I have been waiting to purchase an Austin seven from a friend of my partner for some time.

Meanwhile as a newbie to the Austin seven scene I have been monitoring the forum and picking up some very valuable information from current and past postings, it looks like this is a very valuable resource for a new Austin seven owner so now that I’ve finally picked up my 1936 Opal (two seater?) I hope you won’t mind too much if I ask some daft questions whilst trying to sort out my new baby.

CXB 773 is very much a project, having resided in a barn in Norfolk since 1991 she is not in tip top condition. I’m hoping my limited skills are up to the challenge of bringing my new pride and joy back to road worthy condition.

I’m attaching a few pictures which I’m hoping may be of interest, any information regarding its originality and background would be greatly appreciated. All I really know about her history is that she was purchased by the previous owners’ mother at an auction at the Suffolk show in 1970.

Waiting for some bits for engine rebuild so looking at bodywork.
Drivers door not secured when I took ownership so let’s have a look !
Bottom rail not present so ordered replacement for Martin P.
Fabulous service rail was a perfect fit and very reasonable price.
After lots of fettling door is an “excepable fit”
Question what provides the seal between the door edge and body ?
Can’t see anything on the A7 workshop site.
Advice much appreciated

Appreciate this has little to do specifically with Austin 7s but I did something foolish this morning. I was in the process of transferring some photos from an SD Card (which included some of Steve Hodgson's great event at East Preston last W/E) but noticed the Erase Box was ticked, panicked, (as I wanted to transfer the SD card's contents to another device) unticked the box and as I could see that the photos were on the computer, cancelled the import. Obviously, that was the wrong thing to do as I seem to have lost the photos. The Internet is awash with photo recovery programmes but I wondered if anyone could recommend any of them ?

I'm replacing the horrible hardboard door cards on my 27 chunmmy.
Can anyone advise me when cups and screws replaced pinned on door cards?
I'm assuming that Austins used japanned gimp pins to fix them originally?

Has anyone else seen today's Guardian? A retirement home in Bingley has created a "nostalgia set" to help residents come to terms with ageing and helping with Alzheimers symptoms. I'm sure that this is a laudable project.
However it features an Austin7 which has me slightly concerned...

Does anyone have a suggestion for a grommet carrying the cable through the casting on a bacon slicer starter?
It looks a lot like the black one on old electric irons as it has an extended body.
I have made a wooden pattern but lack the skills to cast one in rubber.
