How did beaulieu go for you 2018
Posted by: Tony Betts - 04-09-2018, 05:20 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

Hi all,

Thought I'd see if anyone wants to give there view on beaulieu 2018.

Perhaps you were selling, perhaps buying. Even a bit of both.

How did things go, and did you enjoy it or not?  Would you even recomend it to others.

For us standing the stall as a trader,  it ended up on par with last year. Helped by plenty of last minute pre-orders. And our latest venture of crown wheel and pinions being well received. Although there was also a lot that I thought had a good chance, didn't sell and came back home. Just goes to show you can never plan for an event.

As a buyer (bargain hunter). There were the usual mountains of interesting stuff to look at. And I even bought a few bits, not a lot. But they were important things I needed. Floor starter button, and I THINK i 1923 starting handle???

Also good to catch up with people who travel from all over the UK and worldwide.

Did anyone see the front end of what looked like a Second World War plain in green field?

The only real negatives for the weekend, are the usual beaulieu things. The bits they can't be bothered to sort properly, the queuing for 30 to 40 minutes at the end of sunday to get the van back to the stall. And of course the drive home, 2.45 hour on a normal day. 4 hours on a beaulieu Sunday.

How did it go for you? What exciting things did you get.

Tony.

  Paint colour
Posted by: David.H - 03-09-2018, 04:51 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (10)

I am getting to the stage of deciding on colours for the ex Hong Kong AG tourer.
I think the original colours may have been maroon with black mudguards. (no UK records that I can find). In Hong Kong it was Blue Black on the tax disc, but the Blue was a rather insipid blue. These colours have been established by rubbing down through the layers. Then of course it had the violent yellow, black & rust plus filler from California via Ohio.
I have got the car back to it's mechanical specification in Hong Kong - as far as I can judge, but I am not keen on the Blue (possibly Valspar or the like!) it is a bit like the banners on this page!
Does anyone have a modern specification equivalent to the 1932 Maroon? As the short chassis tourer shown on
pp 8 & 9 of the "Coming of age" booklet would be appropriate.

Good day all. I know this has been discussed before but could someone advise me of the supplier for modern 'O' ring type seals for petrol taps please?

Regards from the creative county Staffordshire.

  New spring recommendations
Posted by: Tom Coates - 03-09-2018, 03:42 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (4)

I want to get some new rear springs for my Cup with a reduced camber. I had considered ruby springs but I think these will be too bulky for the limited space available inside the body, and probably too stiff anyway.

Can anyone recommend a supplier for decent well finished road springs with spear ends etc..? I’ve heard mixed reviews about Jones Springs - some people say that they can be a bit rough and ready, others have had good results. I would normally get them from Ian but as they are non-standard and I need them fairly quickly he can’t help unfortunately.

Also, could somebody confirm the specs for a late 20’s chummy rear spring – overall length of the main leaf, number and section of the leaves and dimensions for the eyes and main mounting bolt hole?

  Mounting steering box to frame
Posted by: John Flora - 03-09-2018, 03:37 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

I am in the process of restoring a 1936 Austin 7 Ruby, Export model, originally sent to New Zealand. Due to laps of memory caused by too long between disassembly & reassembly, I can not properly attach steering box to the frame. There is a wedge piece; I am not sure if it goes between box & frame or inside frame. Also if wide part of wedge is toward front or rear of frame. Any advice would be greatly appreciated from here in the USA.

  1933 RP Saloon
Posted by: Tony Saward - 03-09-2018, 02:29 PM - Forum: Sales - Replies (1)

.jpg   IMG_1486.JPG (Size: 137.4 KB / Downloads: 334) Having tried Marmite several times, I have come to the conclusion that I don't really like it. hence my recently acquired 1933 RP Saloon is now for sale, preferably to a Marmite lover. The car is basically very sound and starts, goes and stops very well. As far as I can tell it was refurbished about 2009 and the engine was overhauled by Ian Bancroft in 2010. It was one of the show cars on the PWA7 Stand at the Classic car Show at the NEC in 2015, so is a well known car. Asking price is around £ 8,600.00.
