  Petrol gauge problem
Posted by: Charles Levien - 02-10-2018, 03:04 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

I fitted new sender unit fairly recently and gauge was working but without giving a steady reading. I loosened gauge and found that in certain positions it would read accurately without flickering but on re tightening the problem returned so I assumed it was a faulty earth. So I fished the gauge out again and noticed a blob of solder near the rim, at the back. Presuming this to be where an earth wire was originally attached I soldered another on and connected the wire directly to battery earth.
The gauge is now dead — question, have I damaged the gauge by heating up that little blob of solder on the back? Am I now looking for another gauge?

Posted by: Tony Betts - 02-10-2018, 04:52 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (19)

Here is one for R,

I know like myself he apreciates an old garage.

No need to ask everyone were it is.

[attachment=4025]

Not sure if I'd let them loose on my car though.

[attachment=4026]

I do like a bit of garage wall art.

Could this be a little chummy ?

Love an old sign myself.

Tony.

Hi everybody
I am new to this site as I have just.bought a 1936 Austin seven Ruby.
I have a problem I think. On high revs I get a charge of between 0 and 10 amps but the ignition light is still on. I have cleaned the dynamo and fitted 3 new brushes

Where does this bit go - Nylon Bush (Rear Suspension?)
Posted by: Eddamoo - 01-10-2018, 04:13 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (5)

Hi All,

We have a pile of suspension parts which have been cleaned up, and one of these Nylon Bushes (link below) was in with them.  We don't know where it fits but thankfully found the part on A7Workshop.  There are supposed to be 4 per car!  They are replacements for an ex Lignum Vitae bush - could anyone please shine a light on where it may go?

Many thanks

Friends'Gallery Picture of the Month October 2018
Posted by: Mike Costigan - 01-10-2018, 08:48 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - No Replies

This regular series is a reminder that there is a wealth of pictures in the Gallery; these threads get hundreds of views, and yet the Gallery pictures only get twenty or thirty!

This month, a small fleet of new AVJ vans are delivered to the South Wales Electricity Service in February 1936:

  Bracing Front Axle
Posted by: Jamie - 01-10-2018, 07:31 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

I have read a few posts and articles which mention bracing the front axle to the radius arms to reduce the tendency for the axle to roll forwards under braking.

Some examples show the bracing rod going through a hole in the front axle, near the king pin. Others which I have seen appear to have had a steel tube welded to the axle and the rod put through this.

Is the hole present on some models already or is it drilled for the purpose? I cannot see such a hole on my ruby axle, unless I am just missing it.

Regards,

Jamie.

  Return of the body(snatchers)...
Posted by: Ruairidh Dunford - 30-09-2018, 05:43 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

I have been working on a rather superb early RN.  All mechanicals have been totally restored and the body carefully repaired so as not to damage the patina.  I removed the body myself but got some friends to help me put it back on this morning:

Then this happened....

Another six hours later, this happened...

Really enjoying this project.

  New to Austin Seven
Posted by: Paul Nott - 30-09-2018, 11:47 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (13)

Hi
As a newcomer to the Austin Seven forum I would like some advise on how to modify my recent purchase for VSCC trials.
The vehicle is a 1927 special (6v) I'm about to start rewiring but my major concern is the amount of ground clearance required to successfully compete. As you can see from the photo's the car has lovely running boards which I would prefer to retain plus a very low rear end. It looks fantastic and i'm reluctant to modify, can anybody advise if its possible to lift the body to gain extra clearance?
Any other advise regarding trials modifications would be appreciated.

  Hole in piston
Posted by: Colin Cheesman - 30-09-2018, 11:12 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (32)

Hi all, have a friend new to Austin sevens, he had just got his newly acquired 35 tourer on the road and joined us today on our annual Rally. 20 miles into the run from home, engine noise and some smoke from engine bay, photo below tells the story. Question is, what may have caused it? and is it viable to replace the piston, hone, and new rings all round.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
