  RN/RP door trim plates
Posted by: Dave Mann - 04-12-2018, 07:52 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

.jpg   Standard door trim.jpg (Size: 103.7 KB / Downloads: 340) This is for Graham as I don't seem to be able to post photos on private messages. As far as I'm aware the standard RN saloon (and the RP?) didn't  have the trim plate behind the door grab handle, as shown in the attached photo. The standard models also lacked the sunshine roof fitted to the de lux model and the RP standard saloon had a smoker' hatch.

I thought I had a spare CWP set to assist in rebuilding my back axle, but as it turns out, the pinion shaft is about 2" longer than for a 7. Part number partially visible...

Anyone know what they are for... And if so who might like them?

  JMB cars

.jpg   1934Jmb.jpg (Size: 13.32 KB / Downloads: 176)

Whilst remembering my Ringwood days 1947 - 1995 I recall in the 1960's Donald Cross a Ringwood school teacher wrote about the Industries of Ringwood. However he did not know of the JMB three wheel motorcycle that was manufactured in The Quomp, Ringwood. I was told about the JMB by my grandad. As I wanted to be a journalist I decided aged 16, to investigate. He told me about Henry Barrow who lived in College Road. I went to see him and he put me in touch with Mr. Jones in Oswestry who sent me details about the bike and the company. I wrote to Donald Cross who had the details published in Autocar magazine.
The JMB was first manufactured in Ringwood, Hampshire (UK) in 1933 and was designed by G.H.Jones. The car got its JMB initials from the partners involved with the project that also included R.W.Mason and C.Barrow. The vehicle was powered by a 497cc ohv JAP engine that was mounted at the rear of the vehicle driving the back wheel by a chain; this meant that the front was free for storing luggage. The JMB came as a two or four seater with a claimed top speed of 55 mph. 1934 bodies were fabric covered whilst the bodies of the 1935 versions had metal panelling. Production ceased in 1935. Around 250 vehicles were made.

A 1935 “Mustang” model. Tony Cox sent this photo of Matthew Cox’s JMB fully restored in 2005.

I am sorry that it is not an Austin but thought that it might be of interest. Admin, please delete if thought necessary.

  Speedex front spring
Posted by: scrooge - 03-12-2018, 06:58 PM - Forum: Wants - Replies (1)

I have an Ashley that I am rebuilding and wondered if anyone had any information about the Speedex Independent front suspension spec.
I don't know if it's genuine Speedex but looks remarkably similar.
I need a front spring as I have a broken leaf , The spring length between bushes is 33.5" .
I will probably end up having a new spring made but I wondered if anyone knows what the original camber should be. Or even a source of a new/secondhand spring.

  Any thoughts..
Posted by: graffiti - 03-12-2018, 12:46 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (4)

Whilst I haven't yet been able to view an Austin 7 Paxton I've heard of.... I did see the below advertised which I think was previously up for sale a couple of years ago at £15K and clearly didn't sell for obvious reasons when you see the Ad!

I think it was discussed here a couple of years ago with comments about removing all the bling and it would be a decent car.... as there are now pics of the engine and underneath are there any thoughts by the resident experts as to originality under all that bling????

WHEEL SPOKES

Help! Where can I buy just two spokes (one long and one short) for an otherwise sound set of 1933 19" wheels?

One for our New Zealand readers
Posted by: Hugh Barnes - 02-12-2018, 10:23 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

A pal of mine is touring NZ at the moment and called in at a Vintage Machinery Museum at Te Anau on the South Island. There he found a MkII Ruby that belonged to a local teacher who sadly died before completing the restoration. A group is trying to finish it but they know nothing about Austin 7s. Is it possible that one of our NZ contingent might be able to get in touch and offer some help? I'm waiting for thier email address to arrive from my pal and will pass that on to anyone who feels able to help...

many thanks in advance..

Hugh
