  UY 7869 & RX 9192
Posted by: Monsdonnet - 23-01-2019, 04:37 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

This website contains several thousand images of various types, including road vehicles. Amongst them can be found this 1930 saloon, and it still exists...... as does Ulster RX 9192 which can be found elsewhere on the website.... does anyone here own them?

  nippy headlights
Posted by: Rpm - 23-01-2019, 12:43 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

Thanks JonE, re nippy lights, have clicked the link and will obtain a copy of C.Goulds booklet.

sorry guys, wanted to know about nippy headlights, thread appeared in wanted section and sharp eyed, JonE suggested Chis Goulds book for all these types of questions .
some lights on the Nippy are short and stubby with flat glass,  like morris 8s , which look good. The other being slightly larger in length, both types chromed. which is correct?
In meantime will pick up C. Gualds book for future reference.

  RK window thumbscrew
Posted by: Howard Wright - 23-01-2019, 09:55 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (6)

Hi All

Could any kind person let me know what the shape and size of the thumbscrew that holds open the front window on the RK is?

I currently use a modern flat version (see below) but I'm not sure this is correct and think it should be a round knurled knob.  I know it is 1/4 whit but what size is the round knurled section?

Howard

  Book Collection For Sale
Posted by: Phil Procter - 22-01-2019, 09:33 PM - Forum: Sales - No Replies

Last year I parted with my own Austin Seven Special which I ran for 22 years, and I have now just sold all my remaining spare parts to a club member as well, so it is unlikely I will be owning another one anytime soon.
I have now defected to a Morris Traveller which suits my needs better these days Big Grin

Not sure if it is the done thing on here, but I have just started to put up for auction my complete collection of 36 books on the subject of Austin Seven's and specials etc.

Here is a link to one of them, you should be able to find the rest from there. They will be listed in three batches of twelve with the next lot starting 29th Jan followed by 5th Feb.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202573599349?...1555.l2649

If anyone on here wants to make an offer for any of them I am prepared to listen, just send me a message.

Thanks
Phil

  Chummy engine mounts?
Posted by: jboy964 - 22-01-2019, 05:11 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (14)

What are your thoughts on adding flat penny rubber washers between the engine and chassis on cars without rubber mounts as standard? I need to pull the Chummy engine again to tweak the clutch so now would be an ideal time. I seem to remember something on the old forum about this but cannot find the original post.

Recommendations for stud extractor / setter
Posted by: Colin Wilks - 22-01-2019, 10:09 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (22)

I need to remove and then replace all the studs on my block. Years ago I used mole grips or small Stillsons for this task, but have decided to do the job right and buy the proper tool. I can see Austin Seven ownership involving quite a bit of stud work over time.

Please may I have your recommendations about the best tools please?

Many thanks,

Colin

  BRAKES WHAT'S NORMAL
Posted by: Paul Nott - 21-01-2019, 04:28 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (106)

Recommissioning my A7 could somebody explain what's normal with regards to the rear brakes.

The vehicle has stood for many years and the initial test drive at time of purchase was limited but it was obvious the brakes needed attention i.e they didn't work!

Front brakes were fine but these only worked the front via the handbrake.

Removing the rear drums, showed signs of oil, not on the shoes themselves but on the stud flange and a trace at the bottom of the back plate. Question is this normal?
The shoes look fine although I plan to replace. The drums however are rusty and pitted, is it possible to skim? or should I replace these as well.
Cables look good no fraying but is it normal for the n/s cable to have two turn screw adjusters side by side, this seems strange not sure why I have two.

One again
Many thanks
Paul
