Classics in Town, Burgess Hill 22-09-2019

Classics in Town, Burgess Hill

Popular local event in Burgess Hill, Sussex from 10.00-16.00 with cars bikes and commercials from 1900 to 2016. Only requirement is that they are classics or design classics (such as the Supercars in the Fast and Furious section). No cost for anyone, just donations to our charity the Chailey Heritage Foundation.

Fancy bringing a vehicle, let me know on events.wcvc@gmail.com we are keen to make it to 150 vehicles this year. Arrivals for exhibitors at 9.00 in Cypress Rd car park so we can be in place for 10.00 and ‘grande depart’ at 15.30.

This is an event for enthusiasts of all sorts so has a great informal atmosphere.

Cars off the road long term and SORN.
Posted by: Hedd_Jones - 14-03-2019, 07:05 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

Just a word of warning for those of you with vehicles off the road long term, but have registration documents in your name.

I recently had cause to put a vehicle, that has been off the road since the late 1980's in my name. Specifically changing keeper on the V5.

Today I recieved a snotty letter in the post requiring me to 'Immediatley' tax or SORN the vehicle. And that I was at risk of a fine.

Unfortunatley for the DVLA they got a snotty me on the end of the phone. Whilst discussing my problem, and without asking me the lady at the DVLA sorned my vehicle. This in my belief was an unlawful act, as only the registered keeper can declare SORN.

At that point she got both barrells. The legal situation is that vehicles that were not taxed at the point of the law requiring a SORN being enacted, and that have not been taxed since that date do not need to be SORN ed. They also do not need to be taxed assuming that they are still off the road.

I quite calmly but sternly asked her to check with her superiors, and after a 15 minuite wait she returned and confirmed my assertions.

I then insisted she remove the SORN from the vehicle.

I shall be watching the DVLA vehicle check website with interest over the next fortnight to ensure that my instructions have been carried out.

  DANTE CLUBMAN
Posted by: Steve - 14-03-2019, 01:04 PM - Forum: Sales - No Replies

.pdf   DANTE (PDF).pdf (Size: 173.18 KB / Downloads: 79)
I have a friend who started an Austin Seven special project some years ago: a DANTE CLUBMAN, but health issues have prevented him from completing it. He was a friend of the designer, the late Robin Read of Dante Engineering in Luton, and jumped at the opportunity to build a Clubman in tribute to his old friend when an original unused body became available. He gathered together most of the essential components before he became incapacitated, including a newly built A7 engine by Andy Storer, chassis, wheels etc. and many DANTE cast items, and is now looking for a likeminded enthusiast to take over and complete the project - perhaps as a Historic 750 Formula race car. The car is presently in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. Attached are further details.
I am currently the contact for further information. Email: s.bradford-best@ntlworld.com

  Newman cam profiles
Posted by: Dirk73 - 14-03-2019, 12:12 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (15)

For my sins, i bought a Newman cam from a well know online auction site last year, new but unused.

I now realise my mistake, that i should have bought direct so i could specify the profile. Newman themselves couldn't help with identifying it as they do lots of different profiles to order (although they did tell me that all their A7 profiles are designed to run on standard profile lifters which was a crucial bit of info)

It's approximately 8.1mm lift (0.318") on both inlet & exhaust. I am wondering does anyone run a similar cam? And is that amount of lift race-cam spec?

Tomorrow eve i will get the block bolted down and measure the duration at the valves. My main concern is that it might be a bit high-rpm orientated for a road car. Any comment would be much appreciated Smile

  Brooklands inlet manifold
Posted by: Marcus Ling - 14-03-2019, 04:05 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

I have a Solex MOV30 for my GE Brooklands replica, I understand that on the original Brooklands these were mounted on a fabricated steel inlet manifold.

Does anyone have any photos or drawings of what this looks like as I would like to make a replica if I can find out what they were like

Many Thanks

Marcus

  Identify The Driver
Posted by: Steve Jones - 13-03-2019, 05:53 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (3)

A friend has asked if I can find out who the driver of this Grasshopperesque Seven is. Photo taken at Prescott in 1978. DVLA says the car hasn't been taxed since November 1981 and the Association Register notes it as a 'Query' having no details other than its registration number and that it belonged to a 750 member at some time in the past.

  Slides to digital
Posted by: garryruck - 13-03-2019, 12:03 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

I am sure many Austineers will have 35mm slides of their hobby.  My brother tells me that Lidl last week had a slide to digital converter at about £15 and having bought one he has sent me pictures of my Dad and me on fishing trips I did not realise had been taken.  Thought this might be a cheap way to see old Austin Seven photos which could be shared electronically.
