Photo A7 Books
Posted by: bob46320 - 19-09-2024, 03:51 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

What do I do with this lot, I would offer them for sale, but as I reside in France, there is little call for them and postage to UK is prohibitive and not helped by import/export charges - for example my wife bought (bless her) some hand cream from Scotland, she paid £12 for the product, £8:50 postage and 12€ for customs and handling.  We went to post some hand knitted socks to Australia (same postal charges as to the UK) and would have needed to pay 32€. Fortunately a friend was flying to the UK and posted them there and paid about £5:80 - The world has gone mad.
Goodness knows how much they would charge a UK buyer for one of the heavier books!  The box in the photo weighs in at about 4Kg

Bob
Ps similar problem with a 1932 gearbox, 2 usable 1/2 shafts, SU carb and manifold, diff etc
The problem is that I rarely come to the UK by car and not sure RYANAIR would like a gearbox in the cabin luggage.

  Steering Control Bracket Tube
Posted by: colina - 19-09-2024, 10:03 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (8)

Could someone explain how the steering Control Bracket Tube (BM136) is secured? Parts book PL670_F pages 39/40 states that it includes socket BM47 - this is shown on pages 41/42. The drawing on page 40 appears to also show BM47 - is BM47 secured to BM136 somehow?
In my steering box BM47 has been 'staked' to the securing nut (BM48) by 4 punch marks - is this normal? Also, the  Control Bracket Tube protrudes below BM47 - presumably this is incorrect (and should be flush) as I think that the tube needs to stick out at the top so that the Control Bracket (BM128) can clamp to it?

There is also a bush (BM142) at the top of the Control Bracket Tube - is this just a push fit into the inner column?

Finally, what does the Peg (BM20) do?

Thanks

  Crank Whip
Posted by: Paul N-M - 17-09-2024, 03:22 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (8)

Looking through past threads on this topic there is a fair amount of chat, a lot of which is based on original Austin cranks so rather than looking at piston to head clearance at high revs in general terms such as 20 thou bellow deck height for 2 & 3 can anyone be a bit more specific bearing in mind modern EN40 cranks.
I'm building up a competition engine and would appreciate any help on this.
So with a Phoenix 2 bearing 1.5" splash crank revving to 7000 + what would be the recommended final piston crown to head clearance gasket fitted be. i.e. the actual running clearance regardless of gasket type/thickness. And would this differ for pistons 1 & 4 and 2 & 3?

  self compensating brakes
Posted by: JohnD - 13-09-2024, 02:30 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (6)

I have a new project, a SWB Chummy, that has been fitted with an unusual brake set up.

Front brakes are rod type, operated by bowden cables

Rear brakes are operated by single cable that is run around a pulley that in theory will compensate and balance both rear brakes to operate equally.

The condition of the set up needs to be looked at and replaced, i would like to keep it due to the history, style and nature of the car and in theory should work well.

I have looked through several "special" building books i have, and there is no mention of this type of system, lookign back old posts online there is nothing really i can find for advie on the set up or benefits.

Has anyone come across a simialr sytem, or know if it being described in any publications?

I will get some photos over the weekend of the set up

  reputable car transportation company

Can anyone recommend a car transport company to move a Ruby from the Stockport area to the Midlands. I've been contacted by a lady whose parents have died and whose father owned a Ruby and wants the car moving to the Midlands.

  Just wondering
Posted by: GM6VXB - 11-09-2024, 09:03 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (6)

As it is blowing a gale and heavy rain showers I decided I would look at refurbishing all the
internal door trims in the garage.
Some toffee papers and the attached came out of the drivers side door pocket when the
trim was turned upside down, which got me wondering.
Was 363 XUN down in Devon at sometime, or was this just a 'flyer' that someone put in the car ?.
The time period around 1994 is a complete mistery for the car with only a few vague hints
of where the car might have been and who owned it.
Not found any information about this event on internet either.

  Oil Pressure Gauge Problem
Posted by: David Stepney - 11-09-2024, 08:03 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (24)

The oil pressure gauge on my RP is playing up.  When the engine is warm and idling, and the oil pressure sinks to zero, it sticks at zero when the engine is increased and the running oil pressure is between 2 and 4 lbs until I tap it, whereupon it begins to read the oil pressure again.

Has anyone had one to bits or can otherwise offer a fix for this please? Alternatively, has anyone got a spare 0 to 10 lbs gauge they would,be willing to sell?
