Bean Car Club Daffodil Run, Hampshire (Open to Non-Members)
A very popular road run seeing a wide range of pre 1940 cars, usually including a good number of Sevens.
The run this year will be on Sunday April 8th and starts at the New Inn Hotel, Heckfield, RG27 0LE (with an alternative start at the Grosvenor Hotel, Stockbridge, SO20 6EU).
It follows a suggested route to Stockbridge for coffee and then on to the Alice Lisle in the New Forest for lunch or a picnic on the green.
We will then continue on to the picturesque and historic town of Christchurch for prize giving and tea with the Mayor. It is open to all cars manufactured up to and including 1939.
The entry fee is £13.00 per car for non-members (£10 for members) and awards will be presented at the afternoon tea in The Captains Club Hotel which can be pre-booked @£12.00 per head.
If you would like to enter, please submit your details in the web form at the bottom of the event page HERE and they will e-mail full information and an entry form.

2018A Grey A7CA magazine was a wonderful improvement on this quarterly publication. 2018B promises to be equally good. Yet it seems the new editor is about to be sacked for his independent views.

Midshire meetings will now be held on the second Thursday of the month at 8.00 p.m. at the White Horse. The first one will be 8 th. March . The reason for the change is because we will be able to submit articles and keep members up to date in the Pre-War Austin Seven Club magazine . We are currently one month behind due to the deadline date for articles. In the April publication, there will be a report by one of our new members on the Film Night organised by Phil Baildon and our new dates for the year. We look forward to seeing you .

I have a dozen or more con rods and am trying to select 4 for an engine rebuild.
All are marked with the number 1A348, some followed by MF, some with MF stamped on the other side. The stamping of some numbers are clearer than others.
I have 4 marked with the same number but with Austin written in the company’s script on the other side - nice touch!
All have a number stamped on the big end of the rod with matching number on the cap.
Sadly I do not have matching caps for all rods.
All are 1 5/16 white metal.
Can anyone advise if all are interchangable.
They will be remetalled.
2 questions on crankshafts.
I have a good crank which unlike a couple of others I have is clearly stamped with the number 105208. Does this number mean anything?
The flywheel end of the crank has been “pocked”, the old way of making good when the race has been turning on the shaft.
Any advice on making good the end to take a race in a rebuilt engine which is having some mild tuning or is re-pocking enough?

Amberley Museum Vintage Car Show, West Sussex
Station Road, Amberley, Near Arundel, West Sussex, BN18 9LT
10AM - 5PM (Exhibitors must be on site before 10AM)
Quote:Our annual Vintage Car Show for cars built prior to 1956 falls on Easter Sunday which will give you a good start to the 2018 rallies season. Our show always attracts many superb vehicles but we particularly welcome new exhibitors.
2018 will feature a selected display of fifteen ‘luxury’ cars sited around the central green in the Museum. If you feel your car meets this description please note it on the entry form. Also, following the success of our 2017 shows we will close the day with a planned dispersal to a commentary at the end of the afternoon from 16:15. The Museum is open until 17:00 but this arrangement will help those who have longer journeys to make.
We expect cars to arrive on the road, and be in authentic appearance appropriate to their original build-date. Our space for transporter vehicles is very restricted but we will consider places for very early, slow-moving, cars. Please note customised, later rebodied or otherwise modified cars will not fit with the ethos of this event.
There is no entry fee for the driver, one adult passenger and any school age children arriving in the vehicle. But if you would like to make a donation, this is welcomed and can be made with your entry using the form opposite. There is a £5 each concession admission for any additional adult passengers, payable in advance with this entry form. Normal Museum admission rates apply to any other supporters.
The Show will include a number of autojumble or vintage car services trading stalls - please contact the Museum office for details of these, contact details on the front page.
Amberley Museum endeavours to be accessible to all persons including anyone with mobility difficulties but please note we are an open air, countryside site and cannot guarantee any particular parking position will be available to exhibitors. Please advise us if you are a ‘blue badge’ holder by ticking the box.
If you would like to take part in this event, please complete the entry form opposite and return it to the Museum with a stamped A5 self-addressed envelope. Failure to return an A5 envelope may result in your entry not being accepted. No applications will be accepted once our entry limits are reached or after 16th March, whichever is the earlier. This event is regularly oversubscribed and because of space, safety, ground conditions and your comfort we are obliged to limit the number of exhibitors
Entry Form
Standard visitor admission prices: Adults £11.50, Senior/Student £10.50, Children £7.00, Under 4's visit for free.

Hill locations and times to follow...
Can't recall whether we have had the entry list as yet, but I will post up the Sevens that are competing when I get the list.
Lots of other interesting cars (and Motorbikes), of all ages, and always a great spectacle.
I will post the hill locations and times when we get this years instructions through.

1) The brakes work better. Why? Because winter footwear is heavier and more force can comfortably be applied
2) What to do about water? I am a 'let sleeping dogs lie' mechanic and averse to spending wonga.
My memory reminds me that antifreeze finds leaks so only have a very weak solution to try and inhibit some corrosion. Now that it is turning properly cold do I drain the car or leave a heater under it? I decide to drain it. Half a freezing hour with a bent coat hanger and finally something starts coming out. Is it water? River silt? Old coffee? Something nasty from the unmentionable?
Anyway it is out now. So...the next question is do I back flush the thing before filling it up again and encourage it to leak or yet again simply let sleeping dogs lie...

Sunday: 8:45-14:30
A weekend of Tricky Sections, Sevens are usually out in abundance, along with the usual wide range of pre '41 machinery.
Classes for standard or modified, long and short wheelbase cars.
There are usually a few choices of hills to spectate at on each day these (with OS Map references) are usually posted on the NEWS PAGE in the week before the event, along with spectator instructions and the list of entries.
If you would like to get an idea of hills that may be available and where they are, this is a link to LAST YEARS INSTRUCTIONS, but definitely check this years instructions to be sure which are actually being used this time.
