  R 47 running lights
Posted by: Erich - 03-03-2018, 06:50 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - No Replies

Hi All,

On my Ulster rep, I have R 47 headlamps with no running lights fitted. Additionally, I have cycle wings with Nippy style running lights. I am going to eliminate the later and hook up the former. Does anyone have photos or specs on the running lights in an R 47? I have receptacles that seem to be missing a socket and need to know how the hot lead is hooked up, as well as the correct lamp.

Best,

Erich

  Screw plating
Posted by: Erich - 03-03-2018, 06:45 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

As a rivet counter, I'm wondering about the plating used on things like the EA Sports. For instance on the engine side panels. I realize that today, including on my Rep, there are stainless screws. Originally, what would have been used? Cad plating was the norm on motorcycles. Did Austin use this, or regular zinc, or just paint and accept that they would start to corrode?

This photo, taken in 1925, has recently been posted on the Gallery
and shows some interesting features not seen on later Cup models.

Firstly the screen pillars disappear into the scuttle, near to where
The sidemarker sidelights are mounted rather than the front wings.

Also the radiator shell appears to be a colour?

No valances and extra bracing for the lamps and front wings.

Would this be BRG at that time at LeMans?

Lastly the tail shape appears to be different from the production shape.

Does anyone have an RN with an orange "Return to Power" sticker on the back window advertising the 1966 Formula One season and the introduction of the 3-litre engines?

He's baaak, This morning the scammer advertised this Austin and the usual assortment of collector vehicles on Ebay.  He is selling on
behalf of his uncle...etc.

I did compose a scam watch post but by the time I'd finished the post Ebay had deleted the listing,  yea!
It has now arrived again under a different vendors ID ,  beware,    Russell

  Speedy engine big end bolts
Posted by: Steve Berg - 02-03-2018, 11:09 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (23)

The big end bolts on the Speedy engine in my Nippy are rather different from standard bolts - see pictures
The pin which locates in a slot in the big end casting ensures that the bolt cannot turn and the chamfered side of the bolt head always faces outwards and clears the crankcase and/or the cam shaft.
The two bolts in the photo are old ones. They have more massive heads and pins than the newer ones
Does anyone know whether new bolts like this are still available?

Steve
