The largest gathering of Gordon England Bodied Austin Sevens post war, ever?

If you have a GE bodied A7 then you could make this reality!

Spurred on, after a conversation with Bill (AllAlloyCup) about just how many GE Cups exist in Scotland, the idea of a GE focus at our National Rally this year has gathered momentum and, following a Committee meeting this Wednesday, I have a green light to push this (to the Palace of Industry?) and back...

The idea is simple; invite everyone who has GE bodied car to make a spectacle (I have 1st Class Honours in this field), at our Guildtown Rally this summer (see advert below).

We have verbal commitment from 5 Scottish Cups, a Yorkshire Cup, a Stadium, a Northern Irish Cup, a Scottish Brooklands model and a unique GE car - I had hoped to persuade Bernard Griffiths to bring his Sunshine Saloon or Brooklands...

So, if you have, know of someone who has, or want to have, a GE car please point them towards this post - Tom Abernethy will be in attendance.

Several suppliers of GE bodywork will also be there - their wares on display...

Please ask questions and spread the word.

Between a Ferrari and an Austin 7

A PART  ARTICLE IN THE JANUARY 2019 AUTOMOBILE BY DAVID BURGESS-WISE

We've seen some pretty stratospheric prices for collectible cars recently, which seem to emphasise my thought that it's not just cynics, as Oscar Wilde famously characterised them, who know the price of everything and the value of nothing. The sale in August of a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, admittedly with a distinguished racing career, for more than $48.4m - that's around £37 million for a car of limited usability - makes me ask what seems an obvious question, 'Which would you rather have: a Ferrari 250 GTO or, for the same money, a Lutyens house and a 300-car garage full to the brim with top-notch pre-1940 cars?" Or, indeed, a Lutyens house, half-a-dozen top-notch pre-1940 cars and many millions left over to do with as you wished? I certainly know what I would rather have, given that unlikely opportunity and it wouldn't be a raucous, barely street-legal '60s sports- racer. I know who would have most fun with his car on a regular basis, too, if it came to a choice between the Ferrari and an Austin Chummy...

Colin and Hazel Chapman competing in a 1948 trial in the very first Lotus. I have chosen this photo since Historic Lotus are trying to trace this car - unfortunately I don't hold out much hope, since the car appeared at various events using a variety of registration numbers! OX 9292 is almost certainly the original identity of the chummy on which the special was based, but who knows what identity it had when Colin sold it on?

  Radius arm reinforcement
Posted by: agmatthews - 01-02-2019, 05:08 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (11)

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice about radius arm repairs.

On my 1929 Chummy chassis the radius arms have been 'reinforced' at some point in their past life
This appears to be because of wear and tear to the hole that the chassis ball mount bolt passes through.
This repair seems to be somewhat rudimentary but functional.

I'm wondering are these reusable / repairable or do I source some new arms?
If they are repairable what would you suggest I do with them?

regards
Andrew
