Proud owner with his well-used four-door Big Seven - note the crease in the rear wing and the broken front bumper!

Can anyone identify the origin of the number plate?

  Crank end float

Hello, I seem to have quite a lot of end float on my crank. It's a two bearing case and has a Phoenix crank. I can't find anywhere how much the end float should be.

  Petrol Pump Help
Posted by: GNott - 31-03-2019, 09:57 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

Hello all,

I'm new to Austin Seven Friends and need some help.  I have what I am told is a 1938 Austin Seven Ute (Utility).  I bought this car when I was in Australia.  The coachwork is from a company called TJ Richards & Sons in Australia.

Sadly, when I first brought it home I had some work done to the engine and the "mechanic" replaced the petrol (fuel) pump with a 6 volt electric pump.  Also, he lost the original mechanical pump.  Unfortunately, he also changed the electric system to negative ground - but putting that right is a project for future.  I was pretty unhappy.

I am searching for a petrol pump.  Not sure where to begin.  I am told that some pumps will fit but that the actuator arm needs to be correct or it can do some damage.

I would be very appreciative if someone can assist or point me in the right direction for the correct pump.  I can take photos of the engine block and blanked hole for the pump if need be.

Thank you in advance!

Graham

  Three speed ball change
Posted by: Charles P - 31-03-2019, 06:04 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (4)

Has anyone ever managed to tighten up a worn 3 speed ball change to remove sloppiness?
I suspect that the steel retaining ring and the aluminium casting are very securely joined and rather as in traditional matrimony, won't part until death.

  So Much Chrome

Have just polished the chrome on the Ruby - surprised to find there are over thirty separate items on the outside, and twenty on the inside.

  Rear mudguard bracket

The bracket that attaches the rear mud guard to the body has Brocken. Does anyone know if I can purchase a new one, or possibly 4. Attached to the bracket is the rear near side brake light and indicator. I have an a7 Ulster rep.

  King Pins
Posted by: rubyman - 31-03-2019, 11:25 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (8)

Has anyone ever drilled the bottom of the king pin and fitted a grease nipple so as grease the bottom bush, when greasing the kingpin the grease takes the easy way out and I don't think any is getting to the bottom bush ?

Can anyone tell me if the petrol pumps M & T are the same or what is the difference, will they both be OK to use on my 1938 Ruby ARR

Thanks for all replies

  Nippys in south west France.
Posted by: brufsup - 31-03-2019, 08:51 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (11)

Hello all, after a long break I'm back on this forum. I still have my two Nippys. "Smokey Joe", the car I bought from Jonathan Swayles is still performing well. I did have the diff fall to bits a couple of years ago on the way home from the Pau Grand Prix, but that was quickly rebuilt. This car gets regular use.

  Valve clearance.

How much clearance does a valve need at full lift in the combustion chamber ?
For the best flow should there be a good clearance above the valve or not ?
