Bingo game: find an original part
Posted by: JonE - 15-07-2024, 08:31 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (11)

ok, I was a bit captivated looking back into the parts catalogues just now. They are so comprehensive on all the little bits.
So, a new thread. Someone propose the part from a screen grab as below, and first person to provide a real time pic of it in use (or in existence). Historic is acceptable. Keep it tight. Winner proposes new part. First one - BD131 from mid 1930! Didn't say it would be easy.

  Constant misfire ??????
Posted by: Bluebird7 - 13-07-2024, 07:45 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (61)

As per thread title  !!!!!
I simply cannot get my very very very expensive rebuilt engine (coil) to run properly ????
there is a constant misfire, that I can only guess is electrical/ignition ???
I've simply run out of ideas and if it continues ,I'll be throwing a gallon of unleaded over it and a box of swan vestas .
Just changed condenser, still the same, so coil next I guess, what's the best one to fit (6v) ???
Or is anybody near me, West Norfolk, that can pop by for a look ?

  Various vital components
Posted by: Steve kay - 13-07-2024, 06:31 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (4)

Long overdue store blitz make available;
early coil engine, c/case no M13335
late coil c/case, good teeth for starter
magneto crankcase, manifold for updraft, block with valves
3 speed box, spare cover

PM or stevekaytwo@btinternet.com

all be be collected from Abergavenny, swapped about 25 mile radius or Chateau Impney car park, also numerous crank shaft, pistons, coil engine dynamos, lots of kit far too good to weigh in, is there a club shed closer than Bristol or should that be the fall back destination?

variants of scuttle throttle cross shaft
Posted by: JonE - 13-07-2024, 02:05 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (6)

I realise I don't have a proper chronology in my head for the different throttle cross shafts. I know the Nippy with arc bend, and I have one here which is straight and has the 90 degree bend for the throttle on the N/S. It has no space for any throttle action the central controls (only enough room for the accelerator connection) so I'm presuming its post '32 or whenever the DK4 came in?
I've also seen a cross shaft with a parallel higher section in the middle but not an arc. I'm not sure what that fitted.

How many are there in entirety... and can one back-convert something later for s/wheel centre controls? TIA

  Distributor drive gear pin
Posted by: Nick Salmon - 13-07-2024, 12:59 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (6)

Advice please... Is it OK to use a suitable size roll pin instead of the usual mills pin to secure the distributor drive gear?

  Steering Column - Safety Check?
Posted by: Chris KC - 11-07-2024, 10:26 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (4)

This is possibly a stupid question, but -

I acquired an apparently sound steering column I intend to fit to my car - common sense suggests I should give it a once-over first for safety's sake - can anyone suggest what I should be looking for?

Obviously:
- loose fixings
- presence of clean~ish grease
- cracks
- excessive play or tight spots
...erm...anything else? Are there any specific pitfalls to look out for?

It must be 40 years since I last had one apart so any input welcomed.

Chorley area - AE Chummy and parts
Posted by: JonE - 11-07-2024, 09:36 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

I happened upon another late AE Tourer with an owner in his eighties; the son is helping with its future sale. I'm interested in recording it but are there people in that area who might be interested in some spare engines and parts - or indeed know of anyone in the area looking for a "restored" car? No idea of the quality. I think it might have been a PWA7C car from the register, but it may have lapsed...
Perhaps PM me and I'll pass on a contact to the son.
