Posted by: Dan Cole - 05-10-2017, 12:05 PM - Forum: Wants - No Replies

Hello all,  I am looking for a pair of front wings, flitch plates and rad shell for my AD tourer project. Any condition considered. These are the missing major components for my Chummy project so if you have any / all of the above and are willing to sell I would be interested to hear.

Thanks Dan Cole (Bristol)

Just spotted this on the Accuspark website - is this the same unit that is being tested by the A7CA? Only available in 12V -ve, I thought one being tested by the A7CA was going to be in all combinations of 6V/12V =ve/-ve.

They show a stock of 99 units, so presumably they are expecting these to sell!

  Cheap wheel rebuild - WARNING!!
Posted by: Doug Baker - 04-10-2017, 08:06 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (21)

I have had the regrettable experience of being suckered through eBay I wish to warn other would be buyers.

The following link is to the seller;

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-36-SPOKES-CLASSIC-CAR-WHEEL-RIM-AUSTIN-A7-10-12-16-20-AUD-/282628032563?hash=item41cdf18833

Having bought the advertised A7 wheel for $290 Aust as per the attached link upon receipt it looked the business, I thought I was on a winner.

I had the wheel powder coated black and then a new tyre fitted. It was at this point when it was attempted to fit the wheel to the car I discovered the pitfalls of the purchase simply I had bought a lemon.  The old expression of if it is too good to be true then it most likely is, come flooding in with vengeance.

• The first fault is the hub center is 31tho to small in diameter and will not fit the diameter of the mounting hub being 3”diameter.

• The laced indexing of the spokes was incorrect with the spokes crossing over in front of the mounting stud. This fault will not allow a socket to be used to tighten the nuts.

• While an easy fix the hole for the valve spigot is too small.

• The last being there is six hole witness centers drilled that must have been wrong and these were disguised with a filler.

I have included photos in a hope these may make the preceding clearer, The telescopic gauge was set from an original wheel hub

Regards,

Doug Baker

  Ulster/EA Sports build
Posted by: merlinart - 03-10-2017, 07:33 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (13)

Hi  all

Are there any others currently or just about to commence a build up of an "Ulster" replica, in particular one of Rod Yates' bodies? I am about to strip a 1938 Ruby chassis and restore it.

I shall be using:

1) A Reliant 850 engine and gearbox.
2) Hydraulic brakes.

I shall be renewing all parts that require it including new springs and shock absorbers.

I shall be glad to share experiences and perhaps any who are doing a similar build up, might do likewise.

I should like to share experiences in hydraulic brakes and in general.

My email address is art@spitfireart.com My tel nos are 01273 843749, 07976 312058. I am in Ditchling East Sussex.

My intention is to do a build up blog. If anyone knows of other blogs, perhaps you'll kindly let me know please.

I build my own three wheelers at www.aerocyclecars.com

Looking forward to further news.

regards

Arthur

  Re setting rear springs
Posted by: Special Bits - 03-10-2017, 04:33 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

The Ulsteroid rides a bit low at the rear for trials, the springs have about an inch of set on them when fitted and the weight of the car is on them. I have to rebuild the axle in a couple of weeks and was wondering if sending them to the local black smith to have a couple of inches more set put in was a viable option? I dont know if its just a case of heating them up and bending them, or if they have to come apart and be completely rebuilt. if the latter then new springs are probably a better option.

Stuart.

This shows the problem, add 25 stone to the car and it sits down at the back considerably. As I have entered the MCC Exeter trial I should probably try to stop the spare wheel well hitting the rocks!

  An Arrow Sports Foursome
Posted by: Ron Hayhurst - 03-10-2017, 11:04 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - No Replies

Forum readers may be interested to learn that yet another Arrow is available as a restoration project. I have been in touch with the Arrow Registrar, Jim Blacklock, and having seen the car and the high standard of restored coachwork we both feel its impending sale needs a little airing amongst the A7 fraternity. All the paperwork is intact. It is mainly chassis and mechanics that need further work. It is to be auctioned very soon by Richard Edmunds - see his web site.  The car is in my home town of Thornbury. Contact me if you want more info including pics.
