Rear axle fill/level plugs |

After welding a nut on the plug on my late style axle and using some force it gave up its tight grip and did the honourable thing and backed off. I've matched the thread to 1/4 inch BSPT and got a replacement from Colchester Hydraulics, but any plumbing merchant should have something that matches the original.

Magneto spark |

I have coil and battery, so this is not about Austin 7s. On another forum, selling a Matchless with a magneto, a poster has said that retarding the spark is not necessary and in fact that the magneto produces a weaker spark when retarded. I always retarded the spark on my motorcycles to avoid kick back. But more importantly, I don't see how retarding the spark would weaken it. Shouldn't the mag produce a consistent spark but retarding just causes the spark to occur at a different point in the engine's cycle?

Ruby track rod pin |

Hello.
Please can someone assist me with a couple of questions.
On my 1937 Ruby I'm in the process of removing some of the play(not all) in the steering.
I've found the n/s track rod end where there is clear excessive play in the pin even when filled with grease.
I can see the parts I need from several of the cherished suppliers but the pin is solid in the track rod. So Im not wasting efforts/ causing damage, with the cotter pin removed but uppermost what is the correction direction to drive the pin out of the track rod end?
My other question is regarding suspension.
It has definite lean to the left side. Not just on one wheel but the whole left side. What components can cause this.
I've tried searching on the old forum but haven't found answers but that might be me searching with the wrong terms.
Thanks for any pointers
cheers Dave

Good evening all. This is my first foray onto the new site and very good it looks.
As well as being an Austin Seven enthusiast I am a bibliophile with what I thought was a copy of most A7 books. However I have recently seen 'The Austin Seven' by Anita Jackson priced at £431.47p on an online auction site. I have never seen this book before, does anyone know anything about it?
Regards from Staffordshire, the creative county.
Stuart

With the exception of the A7CA chassis register, can anyone advise if these is a list available of the original car numbers, chassis numbers and engine numbers for A7 vehicles that left the Austin production line?

Are the large sized screw in core plugs found on the early blocks available anywhere?
I could make some but if they're a standard size it would save some hard work.
Thanks
Charles
