  Ruby ARQ Rejuvenation
Posted by: Geoff Halstead - 07-09-2017, 11:54 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (110)

I should have posted this ages ago, but have only got back on my feet after being attacked by the vice in the Workshop, injuring my left foot resulting in 5 weeks of needing to keep it elevated most of the day.
Soon reached 100% frustration level, having read more SciFi space books plus watched YouTube than ever, finding narrow boats quite entertaining to watch.

Now back to more serious work.

Getting ready to start on the body at last, with video to follow of the Tilter/Rotisserie in action.

Geoff - Well done to the Management for a top class forum!

  LED tail/stop bulb connundrum
Posted by: Roger J - 05-09-2017, 05:14 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (15)

Some time ago I fitted LED bulbs to the stop/tail and front sidelights on my 12v Ruby. Recently, as I drove into the darkened garage, I noticed that the front side lights were coming on as I braked. Eventually found that the corncob type LED tail/stop bulbs were responsible.
On investigating I found that all of the individual |LEDs in the bulbs come on for both tail and stop function - but in tail lamp mode they are all dimmer.
There seems to be some kind of internal connection between the tail and stop pips which is allowing brake lamp voltage back out onto the side lamp circuits.
I cannot detect a resistance but suspect maybe a zener diode with poor reverse resistance..I put back the the old incandescent bulbs and all's well again.
I wondered if anyone else has come across this  - or has any other theories.

  Austin Tractor, France
Posted by: Nick Salmon - 05-09-2017, 04:20 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

On our travels in August we came across the Dufresne museum at Azay-le-Rideau, just south-west of Tours. It is the lifelong collection of Maurice Dufresne who rescued a huge variety of machinery that otherwise would quite literally have rotted away or been destroyed. Eventually he was able to buy the former paper mill at Azay-le-Rideau and convert it into a museum to house his treasures. Well worth visiting if you are down that way. There's everything from 17th century weaving looms through cars and planes, a mobile guillotine(!), engines, water wheel, it goes on and on - in fact the walk through the buildings is 1km. It is all weird and wonderful and very well presented. Well worth a couple of hours if you are passing.

Regretably not an A7 in sight but Sir Herbert gets a look-in with this lovely tractor:

Long time since I saw this and the reference to it having been restored by Donald Doughty was a trip down memory lane. Donald Doughty was instrumental in setting up the Clubs' Association. The Archive still contains some memorabilia of his, notable his gold fountain pen, which is a particular favourite of mine...

i purchased some orange rear light look alikes at   Beauliue at the weekend which I am quite happy with. But what to do on the front. The present thought is to use the two colour L.E.D  jobs in the head lamp mounted sidelight. I don't want to add unauthentic looking units to the front as I don't think it looks right. Would appreciate your thoughts
