Reusing head gasket |

Having changed the oil after an engine rebuild 500 miles ago and finding half a gudgeon pin pinchbolt tab washer in the old oil I managed to find out which of the conrods it came off, with the aid of a flexible camera and a very bright light. I will be removing the head and poking the conrod up to replace said tabwasher.
My question is, and bear in mind I'm from Yorkshire, can I reuse the relatively new head gasket or do I have to splash out on another new one?

Hi Folks, I posted a similar thread a couple of weeks ago and received several replies Thank you.
PeteUU suggested that the RP might have had a Magna speedometer rather than the needle type.
Can anyone advise what was fitted originally to a December 1932 RP Box?. it is obviously an early RP
as they appear to be listed as a 1933 model.

First time on the road "Black Brum" |

Well. After a few weeks of a steep learning curve and a family holiday in Provence, I have been first time "on the road" today in VL 4193. After having been lucky enough to have been introduced to the 86 year old Johnny Haines, still producing fantastic stitching work from his caravan, I have strikingly empathetic new passenger leather seat, a refilled rear seat, and carpets throughout. I have thoughtfully packed away all original parts and now have an interior that I like.
After pouring over posts in this amazing forum and websites of other A7 member sites, I had "Black Brum" as my wife has christened her/it, I'll let you work it out! ticking over on the drive, but it stopped after a couple of minutes, tried again, same result, well more pouring over forum and a desperate call to GK5268 and his advice about fuel starvation and crud in the fuel line had me blowing through the pipe and finding a pile of sh 1 t on the piece of paper that he told me to blow it on to. After draining the fuel tank and refilling away we went. Thanks Gary, I will need your help again I am sure, I think we may need to remove tank for a proper clean. A very fast relearning from my 1960's days of double declutching and gear change and I finally made over 20 mph on the local roads. A bit of fuel starvation on the last 100 yards but I think we are getting somewhere. I am as chuffed as little meatballs!!!!

Hello everyone, I today went to start my Ruby, she had already been running for about five mins. In my haste I left her in 1st gear when I pulled the starter she lurched forward as was in gear,, my problem now is the electrics appear dead, I checked the three fuses, also it would appear that the battery has lost its charge in one go, very odd to me any help would be very welcome.
Kind regards
Nick Heane

'31 Rear Axle Distance Piece |

It would be rather helpful at this point to know how long the small diameter distance piece should be, which spaces the A/C bearing pair from the large pinion support ball race on a 1931 pinion shaft - 'long nose' axle type.
If anyone has one they could measure (or a spare they don't need), or is planning to strip a similar axle in the coming weeks, an accurate dimension would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Chris

Rear Axle Spacer / Nut |

1931 rear axle pinion bearing distance piece - i.e. the smaller spacer which sits between the rear of the A/C pair and the big pinion support bearing. Or at least can someone tell me fairly accurately how long it was please? Mine is chewed up.
Also if anyone has a securing nut for the pinion shaft A/C bearing pair with a left hand thread I'm short of one.
Thanks
Chris
