I'm just finishing the refurb of a 4 speed Crash gearbox for the Box Saloon. I have only just realised that the box, rudely awakened from its slumbers of 30 years under the bench, has no speedo drive. Am I right in thinking that all 4 speeed boxes have the same speedo drive fitted, so I can scavenge one from anything?

The sports box has a different drive ratio for the speedo due to lower axle ratio.
The crash box and early synco boxs should work for you.

hi hugh.
my memory is not the best, BUT several years ago i done a batch of NEW final drive gears for 3 and 4 speed boxes.
but i think, the crash box was different to the syncromesh. ???
so i made the syncro,a NOT the crash. as the need was not asked for.
it may be the crash is 7 teeth, without the 3 speed peg on the bottom. and the syncro is 8 teeth.
but do excuss me on this because my memory may be wrong.
im sure someone can confirm any differences.

The EB65 speedo had the cable drive coming in a different angle.
The speedo drive gears have a different part number on the sports models.
When I ran a Box Saloon axle for a while the speedo was under reading by a lot.
With the sports ratio axle back in its very accurate against a GPS.

With a bit of cutting about you can get the cable to point upward if you are fitting into an earlier car.
