When I was a child books were much more expensive and less available than today. I spent hours perusing my fathers old books which incuded The Wonder Book of Railways, a pre WW1 edition, of Aircraft, during or just post WW1, of The Wild, of Why and What. I would instantly recognise any of the photos today.
From the little girl's intact bonnet the speeds may not match the drawing. The owner of a light open Austin sports 20, early 1920s, reports that Sevens can overtke on hills as once in a lower gear hard to change up. The 4 whweel brakes on the light car are modestly sized. Now the children would more likely be giving the fingers.

The picture doesn't appear in my Second Edition of The Wonder Book of Motors which was awarded as a school prize in 1931.

The 4 wheel brakes and term "baby" inicates a Seven inspiration. Presumably a serviceman driver. I found the Wonder books absorbing but the post WW2 version had too much about saxon churches and not enough technical for me.

I assumed the driver was the chauffeur.

Compressing the image renders the car even more Austin Seven-like!

WBoM.pdf (Size: 919.83 KB / Downloads: 37) My 1928 edition of The-Wonder-Book of Motors carries this page. I've never previously seen this image of a '25 Chummy

Tony,
I cannot find an Edition Number. I am assuming it is a '28 edition as the first owner has written his name and date ( as '28 ) on an inside leaf. The coloured cover illustration is of an Alvis type open tourer carrying five people at speed downhill along a coastal road - sea, cliffs, headlands, seagulls and a lighthouse. Judging by their jolly faces and the stones and dust being kicked up, I think they've just come out of the pub!!
