The Wonder Book of Motors - Tony Griffiths - 02-05-2021 Pre 'Health and Safety' times - and a print (sadly not in my edition". Does anyone have a copy that they could scan at 1200 d.p.i.? RE: The Wonder Book of Motors - Bob Culver - 02-05-2021 When I was a child books were much more expensive and less available than today. I spent hours perusing my fathers old books which incuded The Wonder Book of Railways, a pre WW1 edition, of Aircraft, during or just post WW1, of The Wild, of Why and What. I would instantly recognise any of the photos today. From the little girl's intact bonnet the speeds may not match the drawing. The owner of a light open Austin sports 20, early 1920s, reports that Sevens can overtke on hills as once in a lower gear hard to change up. The 4 whweel brakes on the light car are modestly sized. Now the children would more likely be giving the fingers. RE: The Wonder Book of Motors - 39Jet - 03-05-2021 The picture doesn't appear in my Second Edition of The Wonder Book of Motors which was awarded as a school prize in 1931. RE: The Wonder Book of Motors - Bob Culver - 03-05-2021 The 4 wheel brakes and term "baby" inicates a Seven inspiration. Presumably a serviceman driver. I found the Wonder books absorbing but the post WW2 version had too much about saxon churches and not enough technical for me. RE: The Wonder Book of Motors - 39Jet - 03-05-2021 I assumed the driver was the chauffeur. RE: The Wonder Book of Motors - Mike Costigan - 03-05-2021 Compressing the image renders the car even more Austin Seven-like! zzz baby.jpg (Size: 170.88 KB / Downloads: 216) RE: The Wonder Book of Motors - Chris Garner - 03-05-2021 WBoM.pdf (Size: 919.83 KB / Downloads: 37) My 1928 edition of The-Wonder-Book of Motors carries this page. I've never previously seen this image of a '25 Chummy RE: The Wonder Book of Motors - Tony Griffiths - 03-05-2021 (03-05-2021, 09:26 AM)Chris Garner Wrote: My 1928 edition of The-Wonder-Book of Motors carries this page. Thanks - the 1928 edition. Can you tell me what the Edition Number is (perhaps No.3?) and what the cover illustration is? RE: The Wonder Book of Motors - Chris Garner - 03-05-2021 Tony, I cannot find an Edition Number. I am assuming it is a '28 edition as the first owner has written his name and date ( as '28 ) on an inside leaf. The coloured cover illustration is of an Alvis type open tourer carrying five people at speed downhill along a coastal road - sea, cliffs, headlands, seagulls and a lighthouse. Judging by their jolly faces and the stones and dust being kicked up, I think they've just come out of the pub!!
