JG 1928 dates it to a mid-1931 Canterbury registration; I suspect it's more likely to be OG 1928, which is a mid-1930 Birmingham number.

Assuming the photo was taken in the Middlesbrough area, the grounded railway carriage body would appear to be a North Eastern Railway six-wheeled, third class compartment coach dating from the mid 1880's to the mid 1890's - a similar coach body to this is currently awaiting restoration at Kirkby Stephen East station in Cumbria - see photo top right in the link below:

Good detection Jeff, Interesting!I Recently visited the engineering workshops in my Village in Williton Somerset and have a chat with the enthusiastic chaps there restoring steam engines /coaches. The line runs from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead.
