Chummy Windscreen Information.
#1
Would some kind soul be able to take some windscreen measurements for me please.
I would like to know the size of the of the steel side iron section for the screen, preferably measured with a micrometer.
Also the dimensions of the lower screen channel and the thickness of the glass.
Finally maybe a photo of the lower screen corner.

I suggest that all these measurements "in the day" would have been to the nearest sixteenth or thirty second part of an inch....

Thanks for the photos Tony. What year of car is it?
Any measurements for the bottom half of the screen sections would be greatly appreciated.

I think the glass was 1/4" plate glass or triplex laminated if you paid extra. The laminated became a compulsory retrofit sometime in the early 'thirties I believe.

It's a Chummy registered in February 1929.
Here are some from an October 1930 Chummy.
Is there anything specific you would like?

Thanks for the information Tony,
Looks like the screen channel is a nominal ½"x⅝". Now where to source some?
Can your friend give us the other dimension for the side iron please?

A pleasure, glad to help. My "friend" accompanied "myself" to the garage where I and we measured the other dimension of the 1930 Chummy's windscreen upright as follows (we both agreed with ourselves and each other that it was cold out there):

Thanks Tony,
I didn't realise that you have two chummies including your schizophrenic friend.
Does anyone know of a supplier for the ½"x⅝" brass section?

Any other data you need, just let me know and I'll measure it for you.
