There seem to be two opinions on the insertion of a circlip - I would have thought that if the groove is cut cleanly then facing the 'flat' side of the circlip away from the thrust might be preferable.

I do not know, I am just flagging this because it was raised in a previous thread and am now waiting to see -

a) if it is correct

b) if it is, which way round is right....though it is easily tried both ways.

I suppose that the proof might be to note how the originals come out. They have been in there for some time and have not moved. And in the existing prop shaft, it was painted after assembly so the paint may help to hold the circlips in.

I have done a few UJs in my time, but have never noticed a chamfered edge on the circlips, but if they have one I would have thought that it would aide installation and the chamfered edge would be pointing inwards.
