If I do happen to use the 1.5D length, would it cause thread bind, do you think? I haven't received the V-Coil kit yet, so I can't check.

You can put 1.5D in some of the holes but not all. It’s not worth the hassle. 0.5D Vcoils are cheap enough.

Okay, no problems. Someone in the past was very heavy handed when drilling and tapping my crankcase to 5/16". It's broken through the back of the casting. So the threads are long, and I have no idea how long the original 1/4" was, hence my questions. Thanks.

Indeed. For those I would suggest a dab of thread sealant. A 1/2D helicoil is more than strong enough to hold the sump on, regardless of the screw length, but won't self-seal.
