Rear main bearing oil seal
#31
With my other engine to consider, I suspect with a metric seal I can fit a Speedi sleeve at £32.00 each or fit imperial seal at £8.00 each that's no contest as I know the flywheel boss is good. The reason I like a lip seal is to stop the crankcase breathing through the rear main bearing and resultant corrosive wear of the bearing. What about the front main bearing I hear you cry, the starting handle has been bushed and fitted with an 'O' ring seal which also stops the ingress of water when negotiating a ford. My crankcase is tighter than a crab's backside, they go deeper than submarines. Breathing is via a pipe from the valve chest cover to the air intake.

Ordered imperial seals yesterday and fitted one to my spare engine today.
