I just spent half an hour meandering through the Carbuilder catalogue. What feast of car bits pornography! Marvellous.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The problem with stainless steel is I want to nickel plate the finished item. I'm not certain but I suspect that the nickel in the stainless may play havoc with the plating. Might experiment on an old spoon! Best wishes Charles

I've just searched "can you nickel plate stainless steel", and it comes up with a "yes"

I have just redone the mesh on the Special rad surround - the old one restricted air flow too much.
Found 'Speciality Metals' in Warrington, on ebay, and am delighted with what they have supplied. Their online shop makes it easy to choose the appropriate size and, handily, gives the % of open area in the mesh. The one I have used is 0.9mm SS304 stainless steel with 4 'holes' per inch. Give 74% open area. A 500mm x 500mm piece was £16.66 with free postage. Usual disclaimers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/Speciality-Metals grille.jpg (Size: 136.14 KB / Downloads: 126) |
