I don't mean to sound pernickety but people coming here for reference info would be better served by an accurate answer in the right units. Not everyone these days understands what imperial measurements are (Germans claim never to have heard of them, while having feet and inches of their own). Some people even use centimetres for heavens' sake...

I will quite cheerfully eat humble pie if anyone can convince me Whitworth tools used metric dimensions!
