If the wood is sound, apart from "worn-out" screw holes, I find that one of the new, slightly larger matches works well as a plug - especially if carefully dipped in wood glue and worked up and down a little and then cut off. Let it dry and then use a bradawl to start the hole. The screws on my '30 car were originally the chrome-plated, domed-headed, countersunk type like these from Wollies. https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-338-woodscrews
