Is it easily possible to deduce the voltage from the actual units? The later comment about early Ruby units bought for a Riley is interesting; the Riley is 12volt.
1936.. SE26 .........part no.....530490
..........SF28A/BN........"..........531691
1937.. SF34 C............"..........538419 suits ARR ruby
.........SF40E/90........"..........538282

1939.. SF40J type31."..............."......
The SF80 will fit the ARR ruby, is apparently lighter and more energetic, but is not listed as original
hope this infomation is helpful, cheers Russell
All those part numbers I listed are 6 volt.
The SF80 was made in 6 and 12 volt but as its not austin 7, I have no part number. Robert if the earth on your SF80 is good, it's possible you have a 12v SF80 which will account for its impotence .
It is possible to have SF34 and SF40 in 12 volt but they will have a different post script and different part number.
I have no 12 v information on SE26 or SF28. cheers Russell
