Many thanks.
Loctite 660 on order.
I made up a dummy bearing which was an easy slide fit in the hub and on the axle casing. I could then slide the halfshaft and hub in and out to check clearance.
I reckon that if the taper comes to the end of the hub there would still be some clearance, unless someone had already machined the halfshaft gears for more clearance!!!
