I assume you are referring to the diaphragm going porous, not the pump body. I've not had to do anything to my fuel pumps on my sevens, but I had a lot of trouble on my series land rover. All the new diaphragms are red, so I'm assuming the red stuff has some magic ethanol resistant component. If you're worried I'd confirm whether you have a T type or a slot type connector on the rod below the diaphragm and then buy a new one. Worth doing as if the diaphragm leaks you'll get fuel into your sump (as well as getting insufficient fuel to the carb).
