I used to find that methylated spirits and an old toothbrush was effective. I don't know how good it is with modern petrol stains, but it's not expensive and you could drink it if it doesn't work!

I tried to buy some meths from a chemist and as the assistant put it into a paper bag I joked "don't bother to wrap it, I'll drink it straight from the bottle".

She wouldn't sell it to me!

By way of contrast, an A7-owning friend went into a French Hypermarket to find, in the middle of the store, an impressively high pyramid of stuff.
