Hi Peter,
The joints for the Ruby prop shaft are a very common item, They are the same as most of the cars of the fifties and sixty's
Sprites, Midgets, Moggie Minors, Ford Escorts, ETC
The hole in the end is essential to allow the shaft to move in and out of the splines and stop hydraulic locking.
It looks like a full dismantle and rebuild might be a good idea.
