Perhaps if I used another separate on off switch to send current to the coil
And just ignore or disable the original on switch? I’ll have a voltmeter rather than
An ignition lamp.

I think this might still be workable.

You could use a relay, permanent supply to the relay, use the Mag wire to the relay, the mag switch in the”off” position would earth the relay thus closing the relay contacts.You would soon get used to off is on and viceversa.Happy wiring.
